I have bought two of these systems and neither one of them have lasted more than a year...we get a power surge and yes we do have a very expensive surge protector hooked up yet the system will not come back on even after we have unplugged it for 24 hours...if you have any thoughts please let me know

I have the same problem as above.

This solution was posted in another users topic about the same issue and it works.

The circuit boards inside the subwoofer contain the capacitors that need to be fixed.

You need to purchase the 470uf 35v replacement capacitors qty(2), which you can do at Radio Shack-catalog #272-1030 $1.33

You also need a soldering kit, Radio Shack also sells these for 7 bucks (i recommend the 5 piece kit).

After you get the goods; remove the back plate of the subwoofer and disconnect the power wires, unscrew the circuit boards and look at the pic below to find the 2 capacitors we are replacing:

Check youtube for quick and simple instructional videos for removing old soldering on circuit boards and applying new solder.

*IMPORTANT* Make sure the black stripe line on the capacitor matches up with the shaded portion of the circle where you place the capacitor.

Once you are done reconnect everything and do a test to check if it is successful, it should be; it worked for me and i never used a solder stick in my life.

Try plugging it into a regular wall socket. If this produces no results, you will need ot send this unit in to the manufacture for a complete mother board and power sector transplant. most surge hits will fry the entire board Assembly and, some are isolated in the power sectors.

This repair can only be preformed by a phillips tech. the parts you will need are only available to phillips manufacturing tech.

I'm getting a funny popping sound from the sub-woofer it appears; because when unplugged I don't hear it.

Looks like the capacitors on the amp are going.
If you hear a hummm sound when you turn it on without anything playing on it, then the capacitors are to blame for sure -> Time to replace the capacitors.

What could be wrong with my Samsung tv un46d6000sfxza

If I had a dime for every one of these type of questions I could retire without my pension. The problem with these sets today is that they no longer fall under the category of "durable goods" which include washers, dryers, water heaters, furnaces, etc. They now come under the electronics category. This means that you shouldn't really expect these devices to last much longer than their warranty period. The days of TV sets lasting 10-15 years are over. Three to five is the new norm. They are designed with obsolescence in mind. The manufacturers do not build any tolerances into the electronics so any small power surge or glitch can cause a cascading failure through the device, taking out multiple board with it. You replace one, it works a few minutes, and then it gets blown out by another one that was bad as well. By the time you get through replacing all the boards, if you are lucky enough to get it working again, you find that for a buck or two more you could have bought a new one that was larger and with more features. This is the manufacturer's plan. If TVs lasted 10 years, then they can't keep selling them at the rate they can build them now. If you want one of these to live a little longer than normal, invest the hundred bucks or so into an UPS to attach to it for power and surge suppression. Dollar store surge protectors won't do much to save these touchy devices.

You've probably checked, but how long has that UPS been in service? Have you replaced the batteries in the last 5 years? If you're unsure, give me the first 4 numbers of the serial and I'll be able to help you.

Continous whine sound on APC Surge Protector 600

Hello Glen,

Yes, The batteries in UPS systems have a 2.5 to 3 year life span so your unit does need new batteries. The whine is usually caused by the charge circuit trying to push the charge to the damaged cells in the battery. You should be able to get replacement batteries from your local battery dealer, no need to order "special" UPS batteries. Open your UPS cover and remove the old battery and bring it to the dealer and they will match it to their stock.

It powers up but no picture? In my experience with Hitachi TV's this has been an issue with the convergence IC's failing. You will need to have a technician replace those if needed.

We have had our home 4 years (new). When the AC cycles on, the TV in our room snaps - like there is a power surge. Last year, we had to replace the condenser on the AC. It's an Ameristar AC system. Any...

You should use a surge protector on your electronic devices, (tvs, computers) because the AC unit may be imposing a voltage spike on the power line.

Could be a voltage problem on the circuit that feeds the AC unit. The replacement condenser may not have been installed correctly
