Question about Dell 3100cn Laser Printer

2 Answers

Margin problem??? So there's a Dell 3100 printer that is used by 7 Dell desktops connected via network.  Whenever I print something, it leaves a 2" margin on the right side of the letter paper, cutting off any text that runs past that.  The first thing I did was check the margin settings in Word, but they're fine.  And it happens in more than just MS Office, but also in notepad.  When I print a Windows XP test page, it doesn't cut anything off, but it still leaves that wide margin.  Funny thing is, in Internet Explorer, it will print the MSN webpage as it should be, leaving only an inch or 3/4 inch of a margin. This happens in more than one computer, so it's likely not an issue with the computer settings.  All the computers are imaged, but the image is shared throughout many more computers in other rooms that don't have this issue (and also don't print to this printer...), so I don't think there's anything wrong with the image either. I've downloaded the new driver, checked margins in the applications, rebooted the printer, initialized the NVRAM, and found no error on the printer.  Nothing's helped! Any ideas???

It's just letter paper - 8 1/2 x 11" paper, which is the default setting on all applications.  Not sure if that would be it...?

When printing or copying, the unit cuts off the information of every page on the bottom. Have to change margins to allow everything to print.

First thing to check:

In 3100cn Printer Properties, on the 1st tab 'Paper' there is a button at the bottom - 'Margin Shift'. Click on this and make sure it is set to 'No Shift'. By default 'Margin Shift' is on.

I can just guess it has to do with the paper being fed. either you have the paper wrong or the paper settings to a different size then the actual dimensions of your print material.

Ethernet driver for windows 7

There does not seem to be a valid Windows 7 network driver:
http://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/dimension-3100.html#Network

You can try the driver for XP to see if that will work, otherwise you may need to buy a new NIC card.

Can't print to HP 2600n over network

The LaserJet 2600N has a built-in print server and can be connected to the local network (normal ethernet cable) directly. While printer sharing via Windows should work, I found it much more convenient to access it without the need of a hosting computer - you do not need to switch on the desktop PC for printing from the Laptop, for example, its also printing faster.

How to hook up this printer wireless to my main computer

Hi jjank740;

First off, did you try to recycle your printer? Turn it off and back on again. Sometimes power outages can disconnect that printer. If that doesn't work. Go to the printer and access the system network configuration on the led panel. Type in the WEP number and password again, and let it search for the connection. That should do it. Once it's connected you'll see the blue wireless indicator turn on.

Good Luck

Mark

I've had a problem with a 926 freezing at the end of printing when deleting the job from the print queue. This was as a local or network computer/printer task.I changed the print processor to winprint/NT EMF 1.008 and this cured the problem.Right click on the printer/properties/Advanced/Print processor and give it a try.HTH.

Margin problem

Won't be the printer so I guess that leaves software or printer driver settings or the actual document setup.
