Question about Sony Walkman NWZ-S616F MP3 Player
I've been using my Walkman model #NWZ-S615F with my computer for months now and all of the sudden, it won't connect. In the past when I plugged it in you couldn't access your songs. Now when I plug it in, it just automatically turns on and my computer isn't even recognizing it so I can add/remove songs and/or charge it. I tried to "chat" with the Sony Tech Support on their website and that was a total joke...any suggestions?
In addition to this problem it has also been locking up and for the 1st time, yesterday in the middle of using it it lost sound. You could still see the screen and scroll through songs, but even when I tried to adjust the volume, it wouldn't respond (you could still hear the beeps, though). After turning it off and letting it sit for about 8 hours, it was like nothing ever happened...??
What you can try doing is to uninstall the driver that the computer has installed for it. To do this, right click on My Computer/Computer (depending on your OS it has different names) click properties, and then manage. Once that opens, on the left menu, select Device Manager. From there, plug in your MP3 player, double click to get to its properties, and then uninstall it. restart your computer, and hopefully that should fix it so you can get into it and format it. If you have any problems, repost and i can try helping you more. Sean Huffstickler

I have just had roughly the same problem -- the unit would simply NOT be recognised by my PC. Most of the advice given here, regarding the Device Manager and uninstalling drivers did not help at all, because nothing that I could identify as my Walkman or it's driver showed up in any list -- so I couldn't find anything to 'uninstall'. Somewhere here, someone mentions using the tiny Reset button at the bottom of the unit. In desperation, and fearing it would wipe everything I'd tranferred to it, but resigning myself to that, I used a tiny point to press the Reset. The screen dimmed, came back, and bingo -- so did all my Playlist. I plugged the USB back, and it connected, and the My Computer box opened up, restoring access to the Walkman. Perfect!

I had the same problem. One day my Mp3 started acting weird and said it was not recognizing the files and that i needed to re download them. Try plugging it up to your computer while its charging and hit the power off. Then reset your mp3 with the button at the bottom and it should recognize it.
