The alpine service centre couldn't or wouldn't help with the region problem but I did recode a DVD on a DVD-R and it works fine.

The sevice centre installed the unit and works ok but when they plugged the FM transmitter into the back of the Alpine unit it apparently turned off the unit. They say they tested it to see if it was grounded and apparently was clear? Everytime the plugged it in turned off the unit. They left it disconnected out of the back of the unit and it still transmitts to the speakers ok but isn't as good as it should be. I have a handsfree mobilephone kit which mutes the radio when making a call. Could this have anything to do with the problem or is there anything else that could be causing the problem. they believe it is a problem with the unit itself.

    Cheers

Do you have multiple frequency choices on the FM transmitter. It's possible something is interfering on or near the frequency it's using by default - try switching to another frequency.

I bet you were so disappointed.
All the region hack sites don't even list this DVD player so I don't think there's going to be a quick fix to put you to region 4.
There might be some clues in the service manual, these are usually £20 or so with no guarantee of success.
An Alpine service center could possibly help.
I'm surprised the seller didn't mention the region and as such the player isn't fit for purpose, can't you send it back?
If you give up, you could always recode your DVD's to region free on your computer so you can play them in your car.

Just a long shot but worth a try if you haven't already (It's in the owners manual).

Press and hold DVD SETUP before inserting a

disc, or when in stop mode.

    Australia is code 6585

    Setting the Country Code

Set the country number of which you want to set the rating level

    (Parental lock).

    Setting item: COUNTRY CODE

    Setting contents: CODE

1 Press ▲ or ▼ to select “COUNTRY CODE,” then press

    ENTER.

    “COUNTRY CODE” will be reset.

    COUNTRY CODE - - - -

2 Use the number keys “0” to “9” to input the 4-digit

    country code, then press ENTER.

    Press and hold DVD SETUP.

The settings are stored and the setup mode is deactivated.

I'm glad I provided a working DVD recode solution to your initial problem!

Now you have another problem, 2 for the price of 2 eh?

Your newly posted problem should surely be solved by the service center if the performance of something they installed is unsatisfactory.

I dont understand why you would need a FM transmitter to transmit to the speakers, surely ordinary copper wires would do.

LCD is not affected by cold. This sounds like it is the backlight or the inverter that runs the back light. The back light causes the lcd to be able to be seen.

Require copy of the installation instructions so as to remove unit from vehicle -- unit came with vehicle: have no knowledge who installed this unit

  1. If there are any visible screws from the outside of the unit, or from the inside of the unit when the screen is folded down, be sure to remove them first.
  2. The unit should snap off from the sides, be careful not to break the clips.
  3. Disconnect the wires from the unit, and continue to remove the base plate attached to the ceiling of the vehicle.
