There may be several reasons. First ensure the air filter is clean and not clogged with dirt. Second ensure the coil is clean and has good air flow. IF you did that then the unit may be low on refrigerant charge.

I have a kenmore 18,000 BTU window unit that only blows out warm air . The compressor does come on but shuts right back off.Can you tell me what can be done to repair it . We cleaned coils and filter.

It may simply need to be recharged with refrigerant gas. R134a is the standard refrigerant gas now. But, it's best left to the pros.

Hope this helps and thanks for choosing FixYa.

THE FILTER SHOULD SLIDE OUT FROM THE SIDES OR THE TOP, AND SOMETIMES THE BOTTOM. JUST HUNT AROUND AND WITH THE TIP OF YOUR FINGER , DO THE WIGGLE TEST

18,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner keeps 'freezing' up.

Lgvjr50. A couple things here might solve this problem. 1. check the filter and service it by washing it out or replacing it. 2 be certain that the fresh air vent is closed .# When you clean the filter shut it down and get a hair dryer and defrost it really well before you turn it back on again..4 .close all unused rooms if at all possible. I hope this works for you and solves this problem let me know will ya? Jon

Not a problem, just a question. Can you determine from the Model #, 5018QKA1, what size unit I have? Style # is 18MC 000087CR. Thanks.

It is a 18,000 btu unit which is good for 700 to 1000 sq ft of living space. Model# 50*18*QKA1< the 18 stands for 18,000 btu. Hope this helps!

Need the BTU rating for an old Kenmore K948991 a/c

Your model number is not complete enough for a model check.
However, 18,000 btu in todays' units is what you need.
