Look underneath where the brush roller is located. The brush roller is removed to replace the belt. The new belt is installed on the motor shaft and the brush roller then the brush roller is reinstalled

A small thin antenna cord on my radio got sucked up, and I immediately turned my vacuum off and easily puled out the small cord, Afterward the brush on the vacuu would notrotate.. The belt is not broken...

Hi Susan. There may still be a piece of the cord in the brush roller bearing. Check the ends of the brush and have a look. If its clear the belt is probably strethed. An easy way to test this is to turn on machine a put you hand against brush, if it stops the belts stretched. I would be will int bet the belt is stretched.l

The bristles will not spin.

See if the belt (that drives the bristles) if is loose or need replacement. The belts are located either on the left or right side of the bristle brush(you can locate it by putting the vacuum upright and see under the brushes). If it is loose or broken replace it(walmart has replacements for it or any hardware store)just bring the belt for the replacement number written on the belt,or know the brand and model number.

How do you change the belt of the m5088520?

Hi There,

Here's step by step instructions for you on how to replace the belt on your Dirt Devil M088520 Featherlite.

Flip cleaner to expose nozzle base. Base should lay flat and face up. To remove nozzle guard, use Phillips
screwdriver to remove the two screws. Arrows (Diagram 1) show location of screws.

Lift nozzle guard off. Slide belt off motor shaft
(Diagram 2).
Lift and remove brushroll (Diagram 3). Dispose of old belt.

1. Place belt on motor shaft, then slip brushroll through belt. Place belt in area of brushroll without bristles (Diagram 4).

2. With belt in place, pull and slide brushroll into nozzle (Diagram 3) making sure that the brushroll end caps are in the correct
orientation (Diagram 3a inset)

IMPORTANT: Rotate brushroll manually to make sure belt is not twisted.
3. Reattach nozzle guard. Secure by locating the 3 tabs in the base slots and replace the screws (Diagram 1).

Vacuum has burning smell like a belt but cant figure out how to tear apart

If you flip the Dyson upside down you will see moz-screenshot-2.png
First job is unscrew the 3 retainers (arrowed) they turn a quarter turn.

If your belt hasn't snapped it will need pulling off the motor shaft

The brushbar can now be pulled out (this brushroll had a groove scored into the side of it caused by a hair grip its visible just to the left of my thumb)

With the new belt positioned on the new brushroll insert it into the hole and locate brushroll
(To make the belt easier to locate on the motor shaft give it a bit of a stretch)

Ensure these lugs are located correctly

Pull the belt over the motor shaft

Refit the soleplate cover and tighten three screws

Before switching the machine back on rotate the brushroll to make sure the belt hasn't been trapped between the soleplate.
I hope this helps and good luck!
