Sandisk 8GB Cruzer Gone Dead

Greetings! I recently ( and I mean RECENTLY ) got a brand-swankin' new 8-gig drive! To date, I've used it once. Only once.

Then, it starts going nuts when I decide to finally switch over to it from my old flash. I plug it into my computer, I start copying stuff over, then BAM! Suddenly, the copying stops because it can't find the destination folder. I find this strange, so I take a gander. The entire drive is empty! No anything! I decide to blame this on the U3 technology, and uninstall it, because I only have a few minutes after insertion before the flash dies.

So, after having removed the U3 stuff, the start-up thing vanishes. Now, I have a 16 meg flash that refuses to be formatted. Please help :(

As long as it shows in Disk Management in Windows, it is most likely saveable. Borrow a flash drive from a friend, GHOST it to your hard drive and then to your flash drive (Drive to Drive may be unsafe because you can mix up which is which). It should work and then you can reformat it so as not to steal your buddies stuff.

I have SanDisk Cruzer micro 8GB and being used for while. Recently I noticed divice cut-off comunication during reading or saving from/to this cruzer. I tested in 2 pc with different operation system...

Most likey yes. If you have been using the thumb drive frequesntly and with large volumes of data or as a live boot USB then yes. As these devices are used they can wear out just like a hard drive. These devices though are not built to handle it as well as a hard drive. You could say they are a lot like VHS and cassette tapes.

Ive been using a scandisk 1 gig for over a year and now my computer windows xp doesnt recognize it

Take a sledge-hammer to it, and crush it, to prevent ANYBODY from EVER reading ANY of the data on it.

Then, spend $8 to buy a brand-new 2GB (double the capacity) of your current flash-drive.

I am currently on a school computer. My SanDisk Cruzer 8gb would not run. I recently added a password on it and it has worked before. The U3 system would not auto-run and I have tried running it manually...

> currently on a school policy.

The school's Computer Systems Administrator may have installed a "Group Policy" setting that tells Windows to *NOT* allow USB-devices (iPod, iPad, flash-drives, external disk-drives) to be allowed to be used. It's a good way of preventing computer-viruses from getting onto the school's computers.

If your SanDisk works correctly on your own computer, then use your own computer.
