Oh, and before you do any of that, make sure you set your phone up to use the "Samsung PC studio" selection in the USB Settings menu (Main menu, Settings, Phone Settings, USB settings, "Samsung PC studio") =D

PC Studio for Vista can be found on the Samsung Website. Series is "U series" and model, of course, is U600. As for installation, as Samsung suggests, make sure that the phone is NOT connected to the USB port at ANY POINT prior to the completion of the installation. Install the software as normal. Then, after it has finished installing, open up PC Studio and plug in your phone. At this point, the software SHOULD recognize that the phone has been connected after setting it up to use USB connection in the “Connection Manager” (Click “File”, “Connection”).
If it is still not recognizing the device after plugging It in, or if it displays a message along the lines of “USB Device Not Recognized” KEEP THE PHONE PLUGGED IN TO THE USB, Go into the Control Panel in the Start Menu and open up the Device Manager. At the very bottom of the list of hardware etc, there will be a selection for “Universal Serial Bus controllers”, expand this menu and look for an item called something like “Unknown USB device”. Double click on the device and go to the “Driver” tab (I think you have to press a button on the first screen that appears in order to get to the menu driver tab. Although I can’t remember what was written on it, there was only one there). When in the Driver tab, click on “Update Driver”. Now on the wizard that appears, click on “Browse my computer for driver software” then, ignoring the rest of the page, click on “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”. Uncheck the selection box “Show compatible hardware” and scroll down the list of Manufacturers until you get to “Samsung”. Now, if you’ve installed PC Studio, you should see four separate selections for “Samsung”. Click on the fourth manufacturer selection and you should see “SAMSUNG Mobile USB Device” as a Model selection, select it and click “Next” (If, 1, you don’t see “SAMSUNG Mobile USB Device” at all, then just browse the other three Samsung based manufacturers or, if 2, you have more than one entry of “SAMSUNG Mobile USB Device” then select the top one”. Also, if Windows comes up with any warnings about installing device drivers, just ignore them). Windows will now update the driver (It actually updates three drivers). If you open up PC Studio the phone should now be recognized as connected (Assuming your prior setting up of the Connection Manager to use USB).

Hi All,
I've been struggling for a few weeks now on this issue. Anyway, after searching I stumbled upon this link. Following the steps below got my Windows XP to recognize my phone.
1. Fully charge battery 2. Remove Battery 3. Remove Sim and memory card 4. Plug in USB into phone 5. While holding down "*" insert battery.

Since I bought my G 600 for my christmas present I've been having all sorts of problems with my vista laptop, I tried all the tricks in the book but yet it could not reconize the phone, I was about to give up because I have download all the neccesary software but no luck, until I decided to try one last time and lo and behold am getting my monies worth, Am showing my appreciation by giving my ratings to FRODOSH, I'll give 100% for your advise, it works miracle, I should be in bed just now but because it opens a whole new world for me so am still up tranfering my beloved music and mails and files unto my phone and visa versa, well done my brother, Hope this will sloved others problem. In my view, I think samsung is an ********, to be making phone that is not compatable with these nonsense Vista. Am happy I found a solution, but didn't think that one should have to go through this hassle to get it done, but at lest it did worht it. THANKS again.
