Getting laptop connected to web-not Int. Explorer 8 issue

I'm not too familiar with wireless internet problems concerning connecting to the web. My daughter has a hp pavilion zx 5000 laptop bought originally in 2002 by their real dad. Up until a week ago she was able to connect to the internet as is. Now she can't and it shows that their isn't any wireless connection. I guess she has been borrowing off of someone elses network. What do I need to do to get her connected again in the simplest fashion. I have a wireless modem for my Dell. Do I need a wireless router? Thanks for any help. We want to keep it simple especially since I'm not extremely well versed in wireless, wi-fi and such. Willing to learn!

In order to get her connected legally, you will have to set up your own wireless network. This will require a broadband connection of some sort (DSL or Cable modem) and a wireless router. Your ISP or the routers tech support should be able to help you with basic configuration.

(1)Does this issue happen for all websites or any particular website?
(2)Have you tried using different browsers like Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc. to check if the issues exists on that?
    (3)Are you using a wired/ a wireless connection?
(4)Check if this connection works on a different computer as it could be an issue with the Internet.
(5)Also check if other internet connections work on this computer (if available).

I cannot load Web pages but wifi is on. Am using windows 8. What can I do to solve the problem

Wifi might be 'on' but make sure you are connected to a network.

If you are then make sure that any other wireless devices can connect to the internet first.

If they can then on your laptop do the following:

Hold the windows button on your laptop (it looks like a flag) and press 'R'.

This will open a black command prompt window. Inside this type the following:
ping www.google.com
and press enter

If the result shows it receives 4 responses then you have an issue with Internet Explorer and I would download Firefox browser onto another computer, save it to a memory stick and install it on your laptop.

If the result shows no response then you have some kind of networking issue. Try plugging in a network cable from the back of your router into your laptop and try again. If that works then you will need to try reinstalling the wireless drivers, if it doesn't, then I would reinstall Windows.

Have you checked the proxy settings for the internet explorer? They can be configured on a per-user basis, and if all of your web traffic is going through a non-existent server, it wouldn't be able to connect.

Of course you could always try the alternate method of installing Firefox or Chrome - they are both faster ( in almost every single way) and safer ( smaller chance of getting viruses) then Internet Explorer. Good Luck.

Internet Explorer can not display this webpage

This is not Internet Explorer's fault, this is a bad network connection. I presume you have wireless because I experience the same issues occasionally when my wireless connection drops out. The only solution to this is either use an ethernet cable from the router to the computer or move the computer/router closer to each other or get a further reaching router. Hope that helps!

Unable to connect to the internet

There a very simple resolution to this issue.

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
  3. there would be an icon labeled Local Area Connection, right-click on it and click enable
  4. try connecting to internet again, like you generally do and it should connect.
if you still face issues, post back.

Could be a vista compatibility problem.
check Linksys website for updated driver and or connection manager.

check that you still have permission in firewall.

remove the software of the usb wireless adapter, reboot ,then re install.

just a couple of thoughts
good luck
