In cold weather heater will not blow warm air unless at idle stopped. when at highway speed blows cold air

My car does not seem to get warm when it is cold out. If I let it sit and idle for several minutes it blows good warm air. If I drive in town with lots of stop and go it blows warm air. When I reach highway speed it blows only cold air and will not warm up.

Check and make sure the radiator is full of antifreeze take off the radiator cap and top off the radiator then take your hand and cover the hole where the cap goes and squeeze the top radiator hose a few times to help it go down that way if there is a air pocket somewhere it will help push it out when you thank your done top off again and replace the cap and try

Sounds like the hig head-pressure cut=out is kicking in and shutting down the compressor. This is probably caused by not enough air being moved across the condensor coil (in front of the radiator). Check and make sure all the engine cooling fan components are in place and functional (fan clutch, shrouding, belts tight) and also check the coil for obstructions (Bug accumulation, road debris, litter). Clean the coil and radiator as much as possible at a self-service car wash, see if that doesn't help.

This can also be caused by an overcharged system (too much Freon). Sometimes when these symptoms first appear, the knee-**** response is to add another can of Freon, only to make things worse. If this is the case, I would recommend a system evacuation and service, replacing the dryer/receiver and pulling a 28mm/hg vacuum on the system, and then refilling with the proper amount of Freon, and cleaning the evaporator coils as well. This can only legally be one by an HVAC Certified technician, to insure excess Freon is not released into the atmosphere.

Hope this helps you figure it out, and good luck!

SOURCE: heater on ford 2003 ford pick up blows cold air

on the evap box there is a control mtr that switches the hot cold door. these mtrs are prone to failure. the other problem that i have seen is that the door breakes in side the evap box and that means removing the box to replace the door . if i remeber correctly you may have to slide the dash back to gain assces to the control mtr to test it good luck

SOURCE: heater blows cold air ac blows warm air

Your problem is the air temp control blend door actuator is defective and not controlling temp u set. to change/access this part the dash assembly must be removed from the car.

SOURCE: Air Conditioner stops blowing cold air when vehicle is not moving

plus one on the cooling fan problem. if it was low on charge then as you slow down, condensor temps and line prressures would raise therefore it would cool at low speed and and not when moving since the incoming air would drop system temp, reducing line pressure and then cusing compressor to cycle. the auxillary cooling fans must be on whenever a/c is on, if not, thats your problem. get this taken care of because if you get stuck in traffic, your engine will overheat also if fans are not running

I have a 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara v6 2.7L. My heater blows cold air when idle but begins to warm up as the car reaches speed. It again blows cold air when coming to complete stop. Please advise.

It's likely you have air in the system or possibly a vacuum leak if your car has a heater water control valve. Park the car on an uphill slope and run it with the cap off the radiator. Add coolant as needed.

Heater not blowing hot air

Hi Chris, sounds like your thermostat may be worn and not closing all the way which would cause your engine to run cool at times. If you have a temp gage it should tell you if the engine is actually warming up or not. If not I would replace the thermostat.

It sounds like the radiator is low on coolant.
You could also have air pockets in the cooling system if the system is not full of liquid.

2005 jeep liberty blows cold air through the heater.

could be the thermostat if it was just stating to go bad, could also be a vacume problem not letting the door for the ac/heat close all the way for a few min.and if its really cold out like below 35,then its going to take longer to warm up,my jeep takes like around 20 min at idle to warm up.yours could be a case of over cooling in cold weather too ie(electric fans on before it warms up)that would be the thermostatic sensor.

2005 nissan altima heater blows cold air when stopped and blows hot air when going down the highway. What could be the problem?

Check your coolant level. If it is low, what you describe will happen. Water pump works faster as rpm's increase, managing to get hot coolant to heater core (highway speeds). At idle, pump is not working fast enough to get the coolant to the heater core.

04 civic heater blows cold air at idle

you should have hot water on all rad. hoses when the motor is running at a norm. temp. the water is not going through the heater core like it should. you have cutoff valve bad low water are a stopped heater.try a hoter thermostat if none of the above are true.
