Make sure you get water to the dishwasher. Check to see if the water shut-off valve (located under the sink) is open. If you get water to the dishwasher, but there is still no water inside during the fill cycle, the problem might be with a faulty water valve (located at the bottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side), in which case replace the water valve.

Dishwasher not running through entire wash cycle

If I understand right, you saying no/little water is entering the washer?

First, look for the float switch valve.
Here's an example of what you're looking for:

http://appliancejunk.com/forums/gallery/1_12_08_07_8_34_08.jpg

It's the item in the lower right, with the spoon stuck under it.
If this float is stuck/hung-up in the UP position, it won't allow water to flow, as it senses that the water level is already at maximum.

Try to lift yours and see if it freely drops back down on it's own.
Sometimes they get gummed up and stick, or get pulled up and tilted a little, or have something (like a spoon) stuck under them.

Dishwasher: GPF400SGFOWW For past two weeks making toxic smells. Last night it stopped draining. Filter clear, Hose Clear?

This may seem off the wall, but does the float move freely. The float is shaped like a mushroom and is on the bottom of the DW. Try to move it up and down gently. Does it move freely?

The toxic smell is your water warmer element on when there is no water in the basin. Yucky. The float tells you how much water you got in the DW.

Try these help topics if that doesn't help.

Wan't take on water after first rinse

see this steps and fix it. God bless you

Water Inlet Valve

The dishwasher has an electrical water valve called a water inlet valve. If the dishwasher won't fill with water, the water inlet valve might be defective. These valves are not repairable and will have to be replaced.

Float

The float assembly is normally inside the dishwasher near the door on the floor of the dishwasher. If something gets stuck underneath it and holds the float assembly up, the dishwasher won't fill with water. If the float assembly moves freely up and down, the float switch might be defective.

Float Switch

The float switch is actuated by the float assembly. It is a protection device designed to prevent the dishwasher from overfilling. If the dishwasher won't fill with water, it may be because this float switch is defective or stuck.

Water Supply Problem

The dishwasher is connected to the hot water supply from the house. Check to be sure the household water supply valve is turned on. Over time, calcium deposits can build up in the water supply valve or in the small filter screen inside the water inlet valve. The water supply line may need to be removed from the water inlet valve of the dishwasher, then run some water into a bucket to see if there is enough pressure. Be certain to turn off the water before working on the water line.

Upper tray does not wash clean, bottom does

The problem is hard water. There is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com to find out more info.

No water seemes to be entering the machine. It

it could be the inlet valve. that is definitely a DIY job. but first i would check out the float inside the machine. if it is stuck in the up position, no water will enter the machine. it will assume that it is already full of water. look for a small hat or cone on the bottom. make sure that it slides freely up and down. if it was stuck up, you will have just freed it and solved your problem. good luck

Diswasher

Check the float switch. If it is stuck the machine will start but no water will be allowed in and the pump will turn on to drain the non existant water. This happens often when a small item gets under the float preventing it from allowing the water valve to open. Find the float in the bottom of your machine and make sure it moves freely.
