External Monitor is not working with Dell Latitude D830

I have a Dell Latitude 830 laptop and wanted to hook a 19-inch HP LCD monitor (L1950 series). I installed the necessary software and drivers using the CD provided by HP. However, when I connect, both VGA and USB cables are connected as per HP installaton sheet, the monitor displays "No Input Signal" and it is not displaying anything. Can I be given tips to resolve this issue? Thank you.

Check your display setting on the laptop to choose which one will be the main or have a share view.

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

Problems with external monitor

Typical issue is the second monitor resolution got set too high for the monitor to generate a picture. Go to display settings and adjust the resolution down to see if it comes back.

Did you hold down the Fn key and press the function key for the external VGA port? It should cycle as LCD only, LCD and VGA, VGA only and then back to LCD.
