Question about Lexmark X5470 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Refilling the Lexmark x5470 color ink cartridge: Can't

The black cartridge for the Lexmark x5470 printer is a snap to refill, but there is circuitry built into the color cartridge that literally measures when the cartridge should be empty, and when that time comes the cartridge won't work any longer even if the cartridge has been properly refilled. A number of places sell the ink refill kits for the x5470, but don't seem to realize that you get more than just an annoying message, that the cartridge will stop shortly after refill just because the built in circuitry tells the printer it's time to be empty. They just argue the point brainlessly not doing their homework to learn that the cartridge can't be refilled. They'll sell you the ink, but it's worthless since refilling doesn't work.

I was hoping that someone may know of a generic refillable cartridge that has been manufactured that does not contain this circuitry?

There should be a dialogue box that pops up on your computer when the cartridge is low telling you to order new ones. Usually there is a box you can check to tell it to ignore that the cartridge is low. If you don't get the dialogue box, somewhere in your printing preferences you should be able to tell it to "ignore ink levels." There does not exist a cartridge that "does not contain this circuitry." There are no compatibles of these cartridges and all refills are of original manufacturer cartridges.

Printer does not recognize carts

I have refilled my cartridges many, many times. A messy job, but well worth the savings. Never over fill, handle carefully.
The printer will give an error message, but just press cancel, do not order a new cartridge, Your refilled cartridge will work on the lexmark x5470. Good luck.

Lexmark E120 black cartridge

In their determination to keep you purchasing their ink whether you like it or not, Lexmark has circuitry built into their ink cartridges that based on measured use tell the printer when the cartridge theoretically should be empty, whether it is or not.

In the case of the black cartridge they are somewhat more lenient than in the case of the color cartridge. Eventually, when the circuitry tells the printer that the black cartridge should be empty it will continue to be refillable, and work, but will present the owner with annoying messages ranging from "you're using an unauthentic cartridge" to other things. The best thing to do in this case is to check the box that pops up telling it not to continue giving you the annoying messages. This works, but eventually may start again, after which you again check the box telling it to stop. It's quite livable though.

In the case of the color cartridge the built in circuitry will eventually tell the printer that the cartridge is empty, even if it's not because you have properly refilled it, and it simply will not function any longer. You've just wasted your ink. Natually they don't want to see you destroy your printer, which costs less than purchasing only two of their 2400% profit ink cartridges. Good luck.

RResetting Cartridges after refilling

Can't be reset. The Lexmark 32 & 33 (and porbably som others) contain a low ink sensor in the cartridge that once activated can NOT be reset. The key would be you have to refill before the low ink sensor gets activated. Don't know at what ink level that is, probably around 1/4 remaining.

HOW TO REFILL LEXMARK X5495 PRINTER

When you try refilling your ink cartridges, you are taking chances that something may go wrong. I would search the web and purchase re-manufactured ink cartridges, which would be less expensive than the new ones from Lexmark.
