Question about Heating & Cooling
Goodman CK36-18: Outside fan kicks on, but compressor does not run. There are two control/signal wires coming from the house. I made sure those connections were good. I here an occassional noise, as though the capacitor is trying to start the compressor. The noise is there briefly, and then goes away.
Sounds like a bad capacitor. They can be bad and the fan will still run. Turn off power and check for burnt wires on the top of the contactor going to the capacitor or on the top of the capacitor.. Check terminals on the compressor also. When capacitors go bad they are slightly swollen. They can also look good and be bad . Could be compressor but start with capacitir and wires. IWork on a lot goodman units. Most of the time it is the cap.
