Question about Philips HTS3450 System

Sound from 3 channels only

I inherited an HTS 3450 when we bought our house, however it only produces sound in 3 channels:Right Front, Right Rear, and Left Rear. I have tried the speaker connectors from the silent speakers in the active speaker slots and all 5 speakers work when tested, but not sure the subwoofer has sound Thinking the subwoofer was faulty, I patiently waited and found a replacement subwoofer (and all other speakers) on Ebay for a decent price. Well the replacement subwoofer functions exactly the same with sound only from the same 3 channels. Now I think the problem is in the DVD/Receiver unit; it must only be sending those 3 channels to the subwoofer. I cannot beleive that I have 2 subwoofers with the exact same combination of failures. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks. Oklahoma City Same problem ( HTS 3450 however it only produces sound in 3 channels:Right Front, Right Rear, and Left Rear.) I also have the clicking, whining, buzz, so will try the capacitor route I saw on here, but concerned about the VGA? cable that connects the player to the sub? couple that I purchased it from "assured" me that the cable was the one that came with the unit. Any suggestions on where to get a new one/ what to look for when purchasing one to try? ie. does it say "xxx channel or something?" Was thinking about trying my computer cable first (one to monitor). Would that cable work??

Sometimes what happens is that people r just confused with all wirings.Considering that you have connected the speakers correctly...Now according to u the center speaker is not working

  1. If u have a jack attached at the end of the speakers then try connecting the center speaker jack into the Right front/Right Rear/Left Rear socket at the back of the reciever.Just to make sure that your speakers r fine.
  2. Secondly play an audio cd first, sumtimes a video DVD not being 5.1 channel one confuses a lot.
  3. Assuming that you have checked the center speaker, like I asked u too,Connect it into its proper socket or better connect all the speakers.
  4. Now with the remote you check the predefined equalizer in it n keep changing that [pop, rock, jazz etc] or you might even want it to change it to 5.1 from a 3channel or 2channel Stereo.Everytime you change it listen to every speaker.
  5. Also check that you have increased all the speakers volume one-by-one.
  6. Disconnect any headphones attached.
  7. Switch on the selected source or select another source.
For further details u can check the manual.
The VGA cable of the monitor will work fine.

Why won't my TV sound go through the Hts 3450?

Wide open one here. Is your tv coming in direct from the wall or do you have a cable/digital box that you need to get the signal from? If you have a box then make sure you are plugged into the audio out on the box and on the HTS you are on the audio in. There will be a left and right. If you have the sound to your tv then you can plug into the audio out on your tv and again plug into your audio in on your box. If your tv has an option for external speakers then you need to make that adjustment on the audio menu on your tv. Also make sure that the proper channel is selected on your HTS and that your audio output matches your selection. Hope this helps but I will keep an eye out for further posts.

I can't find the manual. Hopefully you have it and can follow the setup procedures. These things aren't plug and play and we can't assume you have done so.

Sound from 3 channels only

Hi, first of all did you verify with the manual if it is possible to run a testsignal through all 5 channels?
One of the most common problems in this case is the basic settings of the device. If you don't have the manual, mostly you can download them from manufacturers website. Chances are that for some reason the setting is set 3.0 stereo (also known as 3channel sound) which is always the 2 fronts and the centre speaker.

Best thing to do it is take a DVD with THX on it and run the THX setup, it will send test signal to all channels.

Speaker problems

Hi, since the speakers themselves are ok, try checking the BABY PHONE PLUG that goes to the music/sound source. It is normally three (3) in 1 stud. The metal topmost would go to one channel, followed by a blak plastic ring then another metal band which goes to the other channel, followed by another black plastic ring and the final metal part which is the ground. With power on to the Z-5300, try touching the ends of the baby phone plug. Touching the top and 2nd metal part should produce a sound on either of the left or right. No sound (but spkrs good) it is possible that the left channel (front and rear) of the amplifier is dead. Hope this helps.Regrads.
