You have to install a wireless network card in your main PC, and then you can put the router anywhere that you want it.

My router and main computer is located iin the basement, with my laptop located in the family room 25 feet from the wii unit. I can't get the wii to read my router

Check on your router what security setting you have it on. I have found that my Wii will not connect to my router when it is set on WPA2. I have to set it to WPA, and then it will connect.
Hope this might help your issue. Good luck.

I have dsl by embarq and want to move my desktop pc into a room with no phone line.

There's three options you can consider:

1) Stick with a wired connection. If you're just moving the PC to an adjacent room, you can buy a longer ethernet cable. I have a 25-foot cable myself, and you can potentially find them up to 100-foot long. Of course, this can be a trip hazard, so if you go this route, take appropriate safety precautions! This also might not be a good idea if you have pets or small children who can play with or get tangled in the wires.

2) Move to a wireless connection. This will probably be more of an investment for you. First, your desktop needs to have a some way to communicate wirelessly, which it might not have. You can figure this out by checking the Network Connections in your Control Panel. If your PC doesn't have wireless, you can buy a network card or other solution from Best Buy.

If it does, then you can move on to the wireless router. These are common, you can find them at Walmart for about $50. Once you unpack it, refer to the user guide for installation instructions. Do not move your desktop until after you have set up your wireless router. You need a wired connection for setup. Also keep in mind that wireless has a maximum range, and can be affected by signal interference and physical barriers (walls, etc).

3) Have the phone company install another port in the new room. This is probably the most expensive option by far, so I would only suggest it if the above two won't work for you for whatever reason.

Good luck!

Trying to create a bridge with two routers

You do not need a bridge if you are using a wireless adaptor on your pc in the other room. Just set up the Belkin Plus router to the WEP security settings you want and make sure the pc wireless usb adaptor has the same settings as the router. You should be good to go. Good Luck.

Can connect to router, but not to internet

Is the main computer connected to the router or to the internet directly? If it is a cable modem for the internet, make sure you turn that off, as well as the router, and connect the cable modem to WAN on the router and put the modem on first, then the router. Connect the computers, xbox, etc to the router

We moved our main PC to another room and the router is almost powerless...

Have you checked the website of the router manufacturer ? They may have some information. They may offer free Live Chat support. It is possible that there is a considerable amount more interference from the new location, such as other electronic devices, tv, radio, telephone, anything closer to the router and/or in the path of the transmission. They do sell boosters to boost the signal strength. Other than that perhaps try uninstalling and reinstalling the software/program for the router. But realize you may lose all of your configuration settings if you choose to do that.
I don't think that any settings would have gotten changed in moving the pc. More than likely something is causing more interference than before.

Cable modems

I have heard of people doing it.
However, you will need to pay the cable company for an additional line / service, as the MAC address of the modem has to be registered with them in order for it to work.

Video chat room

Well, any type of streaming video will need a good amount of bandwith to transfer without interuption. If you were, for instance, plugged directly into a cable or DSL modem and it worked fine, and now youve set up a wireless router and moved your computer across the house... it's possibl;e your computer is not getting a good connection. If multiple computers share the same connection through this router then they are all sharing the limited bandwith you get from your ISP. Try (if possible) moving the router (and or cable/dsl modem) closer to your PC and make sure other aren't online when you are.
