I'm sorry, but your optical block is going bad. It is a VERY expensive part. Sometimes Sony will warranty these even after the 1 yr marranty has expired. Call Sony customer support and have your model, serial, and date of purchase handy.

Have a hitachi ultravision rear projection lcd tv...has a blue area at top of screen that is slowly spreading downward. What should we do?

The Light Engine is the cause of this. It is not a simple or cheap repair. If the set is over a year old and out of warranty, call Hitachi and see if they would help with repairs.
Hope this helps,

Rear projection screen 152cm lg going yellow

I am guessing that this is an LCD projection set, Please post the make and model so I can confirm. In the mean time, if it is an LCD, there are 2 possiblities.

1) The lamp may require changing. Sometimes the inner surface deteriorates because of the heat.
2) The "light engine" requires replacement as the heat and light have started to burn the LCD surface. This burning starts to show up as a yellowing usually onm one side first and spreading to the other side.
