I unplugged my headphones, but a red light shines from the jack and I can't hear any sound when I play my music if I don't plug in the headphones. I restarted the computer but the red light is still here. Nothing happened when I shut it down and turned back on.
The way you described convinced me that your audio driver is OK, but the sound can be heard through the headphone only. If this is the case then you have a mechanical failure (metal fatigue) on the head phone jack assembly. I consists of two DPDT switches ganged together in a small housing with have 3mm jack on it. The leaf spring contacts failed to make after the headphone plug is detached. Only skilled technician can remove it from the PCB then sold an new one in.

My new Fuj-Siemens Amilo laptop has a different cable socket to the earlier standard external monitor and projector cable sockets! Is there a converter or special cable available and from where. What is its official description. I want to connect to a standard projector. The socket on the rear of the Amilo has a logo of an oval with an arrow and square bend sign!! Your advice would be appreciated.
