Question about Toshiba Portege R100 Notebook

Can't install new OS

I'm trying to install Vista on a Toshiba laptop that is running a (broken) version of XP. It begins the installation, then automatically reboots and offers me safe mode, safe mode with command etc. but defaults back to the XP startup. How do I remove XP so I can install Vista from scratch?

You need to install directly from the vista disc when the computer is powered on, put the disk in and it should ask you to press any button to start from cd..

if not then the computer is not set to start up from a cd, you can either enter the setup / bios to change that setting OR right when you power up the computer look at the screen it will say what button to press in order to enter boot menu, it will very likely be button F12 or similiar, it should say on the screen when you power on.

if it doesnt, then you need to go into the bios and change the boot order so that the computer starts from the CD first. the computer should say what button to press to enter bios or cmos or setup when its turned on

after that you should be able to start from the cd and install the OS (Operating system, eg.Windows)

heres some info on how to work the bios: http://www.whitecanyon.com/how-to-change-boot-order.php

ones you get into the vista setup you can empty the hard drive, getting rid of windows xp and then install windows vista over it.

Let me know how that goes,
Thanks,
Ekse

Cmd command on command prompt cannot enter a file. instead it dispalys "windows version [6.1.7600]"

Hi,

You are trying to downgrade the OS, and with MS Windows you can't unless you wipe your hard disk of all that's on it including the current OS.

Upgrading is possible, but back-peddling, is basically impossible.

Windows 7 is two versions newer than XP, or whatever OS is currently running on your Laptop.

If you wish to install Win XP, then you'l need the full installation XP disc, not the upgrade disk. I'm Not sure, but I think most PC repair shops can do this for you at little cost, XP is still very popular and is still in use by millions around the world, so give that a try.

I hope I have given you some great advice.

Cheers,
Peter

My Art Explosion Greeting Card Deluxe Factory 2 software will not work on my Toshiba Satellite A200 laptop. I am using Windows Vista. Please can you advise?

Unfortunately the Windows OS has changed significantly since that software was released. Nova Developement now has the Greeting Card Factory Deluxe version 8 for XP/Vista/7.

If you have the 64-bit Vista, you may not be able to get the old software to work and need the upgrade or a virtual computer with an older Windows OS (see below). To check your OS version, click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System .

You can try running the program in the compatibility mode - this will work best with software for XP not Win95-NT. Right click on the installer and select Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab and choose Run this program as compatible with (an older version of Windows). Click on the check box and use the drop-down menu to select the older OS. Save the change by clicking apply then close the window. Right click again on the installer and choose Run as Administrator.

If the program installs, do the same compatibility steps for the program's exe file itself. (You don't need to run as administrator though.)

Alternatively, you can run a dual boot or virtual computer with an older Windows OS. (Programs like Virtual PC, Parallels and VMWare let you run a virtual computer inside the Vista system with a computer that can handle virtualization.) Unfortunately, you usually need a licensed version of Windows to do this. (Win7 Pro and Ultimate let you do this free with Virtual PC and XP mode.) Then install the software normally in the virtual computer or when booted into the older version of Windows. File transfer can be tricky with the virtual computer - you need to save files to external media (flash drive or optical disc). Printers can't be installed on both the real and virtual computer at the same time.

I hope this helps.

I search for a driver for my laptop TOSHIBA T9000 MODEL N° PT900E-06QW3-FR

Drivers are dependent on the version of Windows installed. You can download from Toshiba support page but they may only work on XP or older. If you have installed a new OS, try installing XP drivers or search Windows update.

Click here to go to Toshiba driver download page. Drivers are for Tecra 9000.

I want to remove my Vista Home Premium (64 bit) os and replace with XP Pro

All you need to do is insert your Windows XP disk at start up and boot the disk by pressing any key when prompt to. Then run a clean install since a upgrade will not be available. You may want to backup your programs e.t.c.

Changing from windows vista to windows xp

i think you need to make a os by yourself by using a software called nlite where it allow to put your hard drive driver. you can download your hard drive driver from your laptop company website. nowadays windows xp is unable to detect new hard drive like your case.
after you download the lastest version of nlite. its simple to make a custom os.
before you start the running nlite :-
1. you need to copy all files of wndows xp in a drive.
2. when you run nlite program, it will asked you the source -> just navigates to the place where you paste the xp files.
next steps are easy as they are user friendly

Problem installing xp

i would not advise trying to install an older OS because many people have found that the bios is an updated version to run Vista, and when XP is installed there are many problems surrounding the processor and other hardware issues. The only way around it may be to run the vista cd if you have one and then format using the cd, then try running XP disc after that, but caution is advised.
