Question about Microsoft ChiMei CMV938D 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor

Open Question

Chimei CMV 938D can't change input settings cause can't see screen

I have a 19" widescreen LCD monitor capable of 1440 x 900 resolution. It has an analog (VGA) and a digital (DVI) input in it. When i first purchased it I had it connected via DVI and it displayed 1440 x 900 perfectly at color 32bit. But recently it has become out of range when on 32 bit and worked fine on 16bit. If i connect it via VGA I can view 32 bit of the same resolution fine. For some reason the problem only occurs when with DVI 32bit 1440 x 900, otherwise all other resolutions work perfectly with 32 bit on DVI and all resolutions work perfectly with 32bit on VGA. i just bought a chimei CMV 938D 19" monitor and it is set to digital input (DVI-D) and i need it on analog (D-SUB) only i can't see the screen to make the changes

SOURCE: I have a Chimei 19

You need to read your HD digital tuner and see if you can lower the video resolution to the maximum the monitor can handle, right now it is too high for the monitor to display. If the resolution is OK then the problem is in the monitor logic board.

SOURCE: I have exactly same problem

Sound like your display is having issues with the inverter board. When the power supply detects a short circuit, it turn off by itself. When you try several times, you may be able to "bypass" the circuit protection but the damaged parts still having problems. This issue may be related with the DELL display issues.

The display needs to be fixed by someone with experience in electronics repair.

SOURCE: Chimei CMV 938D 'Out of range' error message only when using DVI Connector on specific resolution and color depth

I know this sounds obvious but- I had the same problem, and turns out the cord want plugged in quite properly at the back of the monitor. This may not fix every problem, but, I suggest you check the cord pligged in at the back of the monitor is firmly in there and restart, then if you still get the problem, contact the company.

I need to connect a VGA dell monitor my Toshiba Laptop

HDMI is digital
VGA (the 15 pin connector) is analog.
If your connector has the digital to analog interface it should work, but likely it does not have that chip and thus will not work.

Your description of the problem tells me it may never work as you have it connected. Possibly it might be that the monitor is required to be powered on before the laptop is booted, but that only works in some cases.

I have also seen some work if a 2-step connector is used.
VGA to DVI connector, followed by DVI to HDMI connector.
DVI was the step toward digital that came before the HDMI standard was implemented and was only partially digital. DVI and VGA do not carry control signals nor audio. HDMI carries both those as well as the video.

YMMV but I think it would be cheaper and more efficient to actually purchase a monitor with a digital input (HDMI or DVI).
Without the digital/analog converter interface a digital output device (your laptop with HDMI out) can never operate an analog device (your Dell monitor with VGA input).

If you add a DVI adapter to the the DVI cable going to the Dell Inspiron 580 VGA input, do you get true DVI quality? Can you use a DVI to HDMI adpater?

For the best results, you a straight DVI cable.

VGA is analog, while DVI is digital. The quality will not be as good a a regular DVI cable.

You can use a DVI to HDMI.

I use one going from my PC to TV and the quality is awesome.

LCD Monitors having multiple inputs have option and option to select and switch between the displays from analog (VGA) or Digital (DVI) inputs. Go to the LCD menu and select input source (DVI)

Hope this helps!

VGA connection works, DVI does not

Everything seems perfectly normal...

When you connect the computer to the monitor via an analog VGA cable, you get signal on the analog input.
When you connect them via a DVI cable, you feed the monitor's DIGITAL input, so the monitor doesn't get any signal on it's analog input, and informs you about it.
You have to select the digital input from the monitor's On Screen Menu, and then start the computer up - you should see the picture OK.
Also remember to set the display resolution on your computer to match the optimum (native) resolution of your monitor - this will give you optimum picture quality. In case of VA712B it will be 1280x1024.
Good luck and please come back with a testimonial if helped.

Monitor boots ok, then "Analog" appears/monitor shuts off

Does it have a digital port being used? If you are using the DVI port, it is probably digital. Try using the menu to selct the port. If it doesn't work, not sure from here. What is the model number?

Stuck in power save mode

Have you have selected the input you are using? You can switch between analog and digital input. The monitor would stay in power save if the input other than the one you are using is selected.
I believe the default input is DVI. Are you using VGA?
In the menu, under advanced, you can select the input.

Analog

Seeing the word "analog" on your screen means the monitor has recognized video input on the vga "analog" input connection.
Most computers output "analog" vga (15 pin) which must be converted to digital for a flat panel monitor to display the image.
Many LCDs now have both analog and digital inputs.
