Question about Pioneer AVIC-Z1 Car DVD Player

AVIC Z1 Unreadable disc

I recently purchased a car with the AVIC already installed. Love the nav, radio works fine, plan to start using the Sirius that is already installed. HATE that I cannot play a single CD. The front panel open, the unit accepts the disc, does that lovely humming, then I get an 'unreadable disc' message. Same for DVDs, burned CDs, originals, etc. Yet when I look at the front screen, everything that is set up is highlighted, including the CD Library, but not the CD/DVD. I took the car to the local car electronics store who told me that the disc drive would need to be replaced/repaired, but nothing more (other than try to sell me a much more expensive replacement unit. I don't care if I can read/watch DVD's on this unit; the local radio stations stink and I'd like to download and listen to my own CDs. Can anyone help? From some people here and on other sites, getting help from Pioneer is either a waste of time or expensive, and I would rather not have to purchase an entire unit if I can hellp it. Are there any sites or companies that will repair the disc unit rather than mean that I would have to replace the entire unit? There are people on sites like EBay (see this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=120355121247) that advertise that they will repair the unit - has anyone tried them? They're feedback is pretty positive. the dvd does not work. It says unreadeable disk. have not been able to operate the dvd at all

A cd is stuck in my Pioneer AVIC Z1 nav system. I

This is a tricky one you could try tyaking the top of the radio off and see if you can help slide it out. Another trick is to get a thin stiff piece of cardboard like the back of a writing tablet cut a strip apx. 2" wide and 6" long. Take a piece of ducktape and with the sticky side up insert under the disc hit eject and see if that will coax it out.

Can I install a Pioneer Avic Z1 into a 2002 gmc jimmy?if so is there a dash kit and wiring harness available?

Yes, that is the best way to go. Most local automotive stereo stores sell an installation kit that has a surround that the new stereo mounts in to and fits the space of the stock stereo, and also comes with a wiring harness that wires the new stereo to a plug that fits tthe car's stock radio connector.

My Avic Z1 won't read any disc inserted in drive. Any Ideas?

You have problem with the reading head of the cd. if it has warranty send it back or else you have to try to clean the head with a cotton stick and it will work fine if the head is not broken.

Pioneer AVIC 700 sirius satellite radio stopped working, stuck on

My AVIC-F900BT was stuck on one channel and wouldn't change. There was no sound. Radio head detected Satelitte system, but no buttons worked. Found on the internet a solution that worked for me. I disconnnect the battery terminals for 5 minutes and then connected them. When the system rebooted, the Sirius radio worked fine. I'm posting this hopeing it will help someone.

Disc would not of killed the entire unit, it may of clogged up the laser eye where it reads the disc. Use canned air or shop air and throughly blow out the unit. If problem persists contact Panasonic for replacement or repair.

Trying to add more audio equipment to my Pioneer Nav stereo

The Avic N2 is only XM ready not Sirius ready like the N3, which is SAT ready(both XM and Sirius). If you must have your Sirius the only option left for you is use the rear input on the hide away unit but you won't have it on the touchscreen. There is one more expensive option by have your N2 hardware upgrade to N3, some Ebayer have that service offer for about $275. It's done by replace a surface mounted chip with 70 plus leads. That would take some expert de-solder and solder skill with a solder torch or
a tech's heat gun. I can do it but I don't know which chip it is. I have an immaculate N3 for sale on Ebay. Maybe you could sell your N2 and buy an N3. I usually get about $550-$650 for an N2 depend on the condition. Hope that I did some help. You can call me at 801-414-4566, I would do anything I can. Goodluck.
