Question about Apple iPhone Smartphone

Opened Up iPhone, Now Touch Screen Doesn't Work

I tried to replace the glass on my iPhone (but ended up not doing so), and when I put it all back together (having taken the phone apart to try and replace the glass), the bottom half of the touch screen doesn't work. There are a few bands that don't work... it's not the entire bottom half, but most of it.

I tried taking it apart again and cleaning it really good, but to no avail. Re-putting it back together again DID fix a problem with the sensors that turn the screen off when you're on a call, but it did NOT fix the touch screen. I've tried the hard restart and stuff, but that doesn't work.

So I guess the real question I have is whether or not it's a software issue, or more likely something it's the hardware when I put it back together? The cable labeled "1" in the inside of the phone had a hard time staying in place. Is it possible that that is the problem? Or maybe one of the other cables? Or is it because debris got between the glass covering and the LCD Touch-part (I cleaned them both really good the second time and there is no visible specs or even fingerprints on the back side of the glass or the actual touch screen).

Thanks!

The bottom part of my iphone touch screen doesnt work, i cannot use this part of the phone but everything else works? Any ideas on the problem or the fix?

You need to replace the digitiser of your phone which is the hardware which makes the touch screen work. This is attached to the glass of the touch screen and can be replaced in one. You can do this yourself using tutorial videos although I would recommend using a local iPhone repair shop as Apple will charge extortionate prices for this repair.

Okay try this, ive been doing this and making a TON of money on it recently... go you youtube and search for iPhone 3g (or whatever kind you have, 3g,3gs,2g) digitizer replacement.

you can go to ebay and search for iphone 3g digitizer and it will come up with tons of links to buy them, order one, its about $20 and then put it on like said in the youtube vidoes... i dont suggest using Direct Fix's or PDAParts.com's video...

Basic instructions,
take out two screws on bottom of phone,
take a suction cup the the glass of the phone and pull up,
once inside look for where the cables connect and disconnect,
unscrew 6 screws and CAREFULLY pull off the LCD,
go ahead an rip off all the glass from the plastic frame,
replace with new digitizer (glass),
and put LCD back on,
re-assemble and put screws back in the bottom (dont forget to plug cables in),
power up iPhone,
you good! (:

this will only work with iPhone 3g/3gs

original iphones your kind of just stuck with a paper-weight

I put a screen and glass on my iphone but it doesnt seem to be getting power to it. could it be a grounding problem. i dont have the screws yet.

Hello,
I would recommend trying it out when you have all the necessary tools needed to complete the job. Until then, you leave your equipment open to ESD (electro-static discharge or static electricity) which seems harmless to humans but in actuality can virtually fry your sensitive internal components.
You might also have a faulty LCD/Digitizer/Glass combo. If this is a 2g model, then any of those components that need replacing require the entire set of 3 to be replaced to correct the issue (and not open up new ones).
On eBay many dealers sell the individual parts, but this is wrong and can further damage your iPhone down the line. The LCD/Digitizer/Glass combo is fused together from factory and any attempt to separate the combo typically ends in damaging one or more of the other components. Only the 3G (and I believe 3GS) allow for the glass to be a separate piece as the LCD/Digitizer.
If you own a 2G and bought one of these black-market individual pieces, I'd recommend you contact the seller and get a refund. They usually for about $40-80 and break more than they fix (if they work at all).
You are better off spending your money at Apple, as they will charge a $199 to fix (ie, replace your broken iPhone with a brand new model) and you'll get a 1-yr warranty out of it (along with a brand new iPhone) and no contract extensions for out of warranty replacements.

Reset the phone or use iTunes to restore the phone to the factory defaults. If that doesn’t work you will need to take the phone by the Apple store and have them check it out. The touch screen component of the iPhone is like a second screen under the display; it can break and you can still have a perfectly clear picture but no touch response.

Iphone lower part keyboard not working

The iPhone's capacitive touch screen doesn't have the concept of calibration.
To fix the problem you're experiencing, I suggest trying each of the following options:
  1. Hard reset of the phone by holding the Home and Sleep buttons for 10 seconds.
  2. "Reset All Settings" from Settings ? General ? Reset.
  3. "Erase All Content and Settings" from Settings ? General ? Reset.
  4. If your phone is still under warranty or covered by AppleCare, bring it to Apple and they will repair or replace it for you.
  5. If not covered, then there are guides for replacing the front panel (first-gen iPhone), which contains the digitizer.
