Honda 2000i generator runs but cuts out after a short while...

We dont have too much trouble starting the genny but after a while it cuts out. This doesn't seem to matter if it is plugged in to anything or not. We had a mechanic look at it twice. He cleaned the carby bowl, checked the spark plug, changed the engine oil, cleaned the air filter and did a test run. He said it was running fine. But it isn't, it runs for a whle, then stops. We use unleaded from the service station. What could it be. When we get it running sometimes it runs better if the choke is on halfway, but even this doesn't last long. Can you help?

I would pull the carb apart and look at the needle valve on the gas inlet to the carb. If that thing is sticking, plugged etc, it will only run long enough to empty the carb.
Also check the gas shut-off valve and make sure there isn't blockage.

Hate to state the obvious, but is the gas cap vent set to on while you are running it? Also, next time it starts to run poorly, loosen the cas cap. If it runs fine, replace the cap.

Mine did the same thing. After three trips to the dealer, they finally changed the fuel pump and now it runs fine!

1) make sure the genny level and use good oil sometime when using higher grade oil it will not work especially in winter.
2), when is the last time you re-set the valves? it should checked every few hours (according to the manuf.) It is very easy job you need the gab setting from the manual
3) make sure that no air coming from the gas hose. you may have very small hole so see if you can replace them if they are old.

At what altitude are you running? They come set for sea level. If you live above 2500 feet, it needs re-jetting.

Westerbeke 3kva generator cuts out when kettle boils

Depends on the Generator size. It may well be that it has a suggested 3kva max output. Generally a little overrated. Your 3Kw kettle might be over 3Kw input.

These things mean the generator safety cutout operates just below 3Kva. The generator would be fine with a short time 3KVA output only. better for it to cut out than the cook!

Trick would be to have a 2kw kettle or a 4kva genny

Hi , I have a 2500 watts honda generator , it's starts & sounds alright but when you plug a power tool and once you press the trigger of tool it shuts off right away ... What could be the problem ?

Wow, you must have one mighty bit power tool there. The Honda genny should accept it easily. You don't mention the current draw of that power tool - it should be under approx. 2200W to allow for start-up load. The other possibility is an excessively long power cord or even a short-circuit in the tool ...... or a problem with the genny itself! Try plugging in your wife's hair dryer to check it. Failing that you should get an electrician to check it all out.
Good luck.

Your generator is a welder?? Yikes, the 220 volts coming out of the genny is not the same as the 220 volts running a welder, it is, but it isn't, the 220 volts used to run the welder are transformed into DC, in the 50 -150 amp range, the 220 volts coming out of your genny is 220 volts, AC, at 30-40-50 amps. Now exactly how were you welding with 220 volts AC? Remove anything plugged into the genny, check the oil, check the gas, make sure it is fresh, check the breakers, check the fuses, get it running, now don't try to weld with it again. Unless you have a big welder to plug into it and I wouldn't even do that because of the generator spikes. I might be wrong, but I have never seen a genny with a welder on it for home use.

How can I shut my Honda eu1000i off from inside the cabin?

You should not have to cut any wires to install a remote kill switch. Most honda engines have an oil alert what will cut ignition if oil level is low. The switch actually shorts the itnition to ground just like the on / kill switch. Just unplug oil alert wire from harness and add a homemade connector with second lead and connect another wire to ground/frame of generator engine. When you short these two wires together it should kill engine. Solder these two wires to a female connector (Radio Shack) and just leave inside generator when you want remote switch. Attach switch to leads of desired length of male connector to mate with female connector at generator. Good Luck.

Sander failure when using honda generator

If you are using a 220 volt 4 hp floor sander, which is 95% of all floor sanders. you CANNOT use a generator less than a 25KV, which is about the size of a van. All Floor sanders draw over 80 amps at start up and during floor sanding all sanders run around 25 amps. If your motor is a Capactor style motor you can do detrimental damage to the motor. Many of my customers have done it in the past.
