Question about Canon PowerShot A470 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a canon a470 and the battery is brand new. I am able to review the pictures in the card. When I try to shoot a picture the lens retracts back and image is not captured. What could be the issue?

Are you still using alkaline batteries? If so, alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pictures in a digital camera. Some may also have reached their shelf life, and though right out of the package may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras that use AA's for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. If you read the camera's instruction manual concerning batteries, you may see the same recommendation.

Keep in mind rechargeable NiMH batteries will save you money in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may be angry with yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

WhY photos canon A470? i have a canon powershot A470 camera and there's a problem taking photo.. whenever i take a picture, it's either fully white or have white stripes on the pictures.. i thought it

Perhaps you check the settings. If the camera is on nightshot, or manual, with a long shutter time or wilde open diafragma your pictures are all overblown, or stripes come from lights. Put the camera in automatic. The main dial on the green camera logo, and try again. If this does not work, Please let me know how the settings are on your camera. Success

My canon a470 camera lens wont retract and keep saying lens error restart camera-please help?

Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

My camera battery died while I was shooting and the lens was out_ new batteries but now I am getting a lens error message!_ the lens will not retract! help!

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... In my, Canon PowerShot A470 Digital Camera there is problem during picture taking process.pictures are not clean and many lines appear in photos

Try taking it into a photographic shop (or just Boots) and ask them if they could clean the lens.
If cleaning the lens doesn't work, then you have a faulty camera and if this happens, you will have to get a new one if the warrentyu is out.

Lens has jammed. Usually becuae of a drop or because sand or grit has got into the mechanism. Only solution really is to get it professioanlly repaired.

I had this problem too, I think it's the shutter problem, it doesn't close
when a picture is taken, therefore, causing the over exposed photo...I've sent it back to canon, still waiting for the reply...

Canon powershot s2 IS suddenly does nothing when powered on

There appears to be an issue with the S2 IS after two years.  See the reviews on Canon's website: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=322&modelid=11368#ModelDetailAct

If yours is two years old then you are probably out-of-luck.  It would probably cost more to repair than to simply replace.

You can at least save your photos by removing the memory card and reading the files using a memory card reader on a PC or MAC.

Canon A720is turns on, but lens will not extend

I had the exact same problem. Since my camera is out of warranty, I decided to try to fix it myself; figuring the cost of repairing it would be close to the cost of a new, better camera. If yours is still under warranty, let Canon fix it for the cost of shipping.

I unscrewed all of the screws and carefully pried open the back of the camera. Part of it will come apart easily, but for the part that wouldn't, I slid a razorblade into the crack between the pieces and used it to separate the pieces.

I was shocked by what I found. The "mechanism" for switching between picture and review mode, appears to consist of a tiny black piece of something (doesn't look like metal, but I assume it's conductive). The physical switch that you operate on the back of the camera, appears to push this away from the circuit board. When that happens, the camera goes into review mode.

I assume that over time, this flimsy piece of whatever begins to wear out and eventually won't return to the circuit board. I slipped a small screwdriver under this piece and bent it back towards the circuit board.

That did the trick, The camera now functions as it's supposed to with one exception. Now, when I go into review mode, the lens won't retract (although it will when I power the camera down). Personally, I'm fine with that, because the lens going in and out is a huge waste of battery.

One thing I learned from this is that when you leave your camera inactive for long periods of time, make sure it's in picture mode, as this should reduce the strain on the flexible "switch".
