The deforsst motor or fan is most likely froze up let your frezzer fridge defrost for ATLEAST 24 hours which i know is a pain being that u will need to open the doors and turn it off for the whole time but it might solve your problem .. it is very common.

where is the ice,is it on the food and shelves or is it on the back inside wall of the freezer?if it's on the back inside wall of the freezer you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, heater, timer or board depending on your model number,if it's on the shelves, door and food packages warm air is getting into the freezer somehow either from the door not closing or the door was left open, could have a bad gasket on the door, the ice chute door could be broke and not closing.let me know what you find and the picture shows a side by side but i'll need the model number too,if it's a side by side or freezer on the bottom the model number should be in the fridge section,on the right hand wall up near the ceiling,if the freezer is on top the number should be on the left side wall in the fridge section up near the ceiling.but with this hot wheather we're having if the door was left open this will happen, you can shut down the machine or unplug it,remove the food from the freezer and melt the ice with a hair dryer, don't do this with the machine running because the hot air will cause the same problem, after the ice is melted you can put the food back in and restart it.

Freezer side gets very cold, but the refrigerator side is slightly cool. Replaced thermostate but the results are the same.

It may be a defrost issue. If the freezer is not defrosting then ice encases the fan motor behind the back wall of freezer and wont allow it to circulate the cold are to refer section. To see if that is the issue check behind the freezer back panel if it is iced up try unthawing it, have towels on the floor it will make a mess, if it starts cooling again after you thaw it out then you know its a defrost issue and it will work until the ice builds up again. You may need a new defrost tstat, heater or timer.

Refrigerator not cold, freezer barely cold and has ice on back wall

You have a defrost problem if the ice is on the back lower wall of the freezer section.... This is where the evaporator is located just under a fan.(aluminum coils looks like a radiator) There are three parts to the automatic defrost system- the heating element(found at the bottom of the evaporator) a bi-metal thermostat(found at the top of the evaporator) and a defrost control board(usually in the top of the refrigerator section, but this varies)

If you take off the back freezer panel and melt the ice build- up with a hair dryer or letting it open overnight, without poking any holes in evaporator and losing freon(out a fridge) your fridge will run fine for about 3 weeks. This is humidity from air collecting, automatic defrost system usually works about every 8 hours when working normally. Your sealed system and compressor are fine, you have a defrost problem. Good luck.

I have a side by side refrigerator/freezer & the top sections of both will not get cold or freeze ice. However, the bottom (about 1/3) is getting cold. Any advice?

sounds like either a defrost problem or freezer fan motor problem. open freezer door, hold in light switch and listen for sound of fan motor. if fan is ok. check for frost build up on back wall of freezer. post what you find out.

Refrigerator not cold.

if the freezer section is still working ok then check for ice build up inside freezer on the back wall, its possible that the unit is not defrosting and ice is building up on the cooling coils, the most common culprit is the def thermostat. easiest way for you to get it going again fast is to manually def the coil.

remove the 2 screws about half way down the back freezer wall. then using a blow dryer def the ice from the coil.

since this refrig has an electronic def control i would recomend calling a reputable service company to check it further for you..
