EMac G4 won't boot-up after increasing memroy

I've just upgraded a used eMac from one 256MB card to two 512MB cards. I've checked that the cards are installed properly, twice, and when I power up I get an audio cue, then the white screen with the Apple icon appears with the "working" icon rotating. Then it stops and nothing more happens; just the white screen w/ icon and me scratching my head.

Thanks for any help,

Ed

Thanks for the input. I installed the original 256MB card. All I'm showing is the apple screen and the rotating icon. I forgot to mention, there is a white light "on" on the face of the computer, below the monitor and to the right of the DVD drive.

I've put the cards in seperately with the same result with the white apple logo page. I didn't mention a white light that is on on the lower right face of the console.

Your ram chips may not be compatible with the board. or one or both of the chip is bad.
check one at a time and see if it comes up with one.
if it does you know whats up.
if they both don;t work after try them single i would say they are either not compatible with each other or with your board.
make sure you have seated the simms in all the way and the clips are closed.

Hi Ed, is it possible you unplugged something while installing the ram.

Here is a paragraph i took right out of the emac manual i have on my computer/

Note: The RAM expansion modules used in the eMac (USB 2.0) computers are 184-pin
SDRAM DIMMs (dual inline memory modules) that are 2.5 V, unbuffered, 8-byte, nonparity,
and PC2700 compliant. The speed of the SDRAM devices must be rated at 167
MHz (7 ns) or faster. Refer to Kbase article 86718 for more information.
Important: The memory expansion cards (DIMMs) must use SDRAM devices as
specified above. DIMMs for previous models of eMac or DIMMs that use EDO or SGRAM
devices will not work. If they are installed, the computer will beep, and the power light will
flash several times when you turn on the computer. This indicates that the computer
    cannot find any useable RAM.

The underlined text is what your experiencing.

All RAM chips are not equal, you may have to use a specific manufacturer. Put your old RAM chip in and see if it boots. If it does, then you need compatible RAM chips

I'm surprised that the original chip is not working any longer. We'll have to do a little troubleshooting here. We know the 256 chip worked in the past, so we should use it for troubleshooting.

    Clear your CMOS -

    1. Turn off power AND power supply

    2. Remove battery

    3. Move jumper from 1-2 to 2-3 on the CMOS reset pins

    4. After 40 seconds, install battery

    5. Move jumper back to pins 1-2

Turn the power back on and try to start it.

IBM T23 wont turn on after adding new RAM

Hi - according to memory suppliers your T23 has the following memory capacity / requirements:

  • IBM ThinkPad T23 maximum RAM capacity: 1GB
  • Your IBM has Two (2) memory slots or sockets
  • Module upgrade PIN count is: 144-PIN
  • The memory speed is: SDRAM 133MHz, PC133
  • The laptop DIMM type for the ThinkPad T23 is: SODIMM, SO-DIMM, Small Outline DIMM
  • Non ECC

If you are meeting these requirements, you may have a defective module.

Also, according to Lenovo's page on the machine:

Memory
The system has 128MB or 256MB of memory standard and can be configured for up to 1GB of addressable memory. Memory options up to 512MB SDRAM SO DIMMs each can be added in the two available slots for memory expansion. The standard 128MB of memory is expandable up to 640MB and the 256MB of memory is expandable up to 768 MB of addressable memory with 64, 128, 256, or 512MB SO DIMMs without removing the 128MB SO DIMM that is standard in one of the internal slots for memory. For customers that need the maximum 1GB to which memory can be expanded, it is necessary to replace the 128MB or 256MB card with a 512MB card plus add another 512MB card in the extra slot. Only 133MHz DIMM memory can be used in this system. The use of 100MHz DIMM memory is not supported in the T23 systems.

This means yo can trouble shoot the 512MB modules individually by installing one of the original 128MB modules and one of the new 512MB modules (for a total system memory of 640MB). If it does not boot, try again with the other 512MB module. This will help you identify a defective module that may be preventing the machine from booting.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Nikkon coolpix L1 After downloading memory card .. then putting back into camera. Reading says "cannot read memory card." Checked card out at store verified that it is good. Why does it not work in my...

A couple things you might try.. remove the card carefully and check the position of the "lock" tab. Make sure it is fully in the unlocked position - not locked or a point between the two positions. Reinsert and try again.

It sounds lie you're using a card reader to download the pictures - try formatting the card while in the card reader via computer. The card should be completely empty when the format is complete. You can even try copying files to and from the card to make sure its ok and format again. When complete, try again in camera.

If the problem persists, check to make sure the card is on Nikon approved memory card list for use with the Coolpix L1 (provided below):

The following is a list of approved memory cards for the Coolpix L1 digital still camera. These cards have been tested and approved for use with the Coolpix L1.
The L1 uses SD (Secure Digital) memory. Sandisk:
  • 64MB, 128 MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
Toshiba:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 128 MB*, 256MB*, 512MB
Panasonic:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
* - Cards rated for 10MB/s (high speed) Other cards have not been tested. For more details on the memory cards listed above, please contact the manufacturer.

The list came direct from Nikon Support. Other cards may work, but only those on the list are approved. Successful use of other cards can not be guaranteed.

I hope this helps!

According to Hp website your computer will handle two 512 Mb RAM chips. Make sure they are PC133. If computer will not boot with both inserted properly, one of them is bad. Put one in slot 1 and none in slot 2 and see if it boots. Then switch the chips put the extra chip in slot 1 and none in slot 2. See if it boots. This way you can troubleshoot a possible bad chip.

Thinkpad T20 won't accept memory upgrade

according to ibm
you are allowed only pc100 memory with a maximum of 512mb.
when handling memory make sure you are grounded before touching any memory chips.
try getting another set of 256mb chips and grounding yourself before installing them.
