I have tried all the fixes, and no I dont have a tiny little switch to turn it off, and the posted websites do nothing but add another useless file to my computer. I have also tried the run command value fix and still no success. At this point I dont even want the data on the USB, besides smashing it with a hammer, how can i delete everything on it.

As flash drive is showing, a big probability you have virus in it or your computer is also infected with a virus. If this is a mp3 player it more of like a flash drive and prone to flash drive virus. Formating the drive usually can fix this.

If you can run Run Command on your computer. In windows prompt screen type DIR/AH, this will show you hidden files. Usually if you get AUTORUN.INF that could maybe indicated a virus infection. Type TYPE AUTORUN.INF with the space between to view what is the script usually it is link to run untrusted application usually in .exe extension.

The pen drive indicates write protected and does not allow to write new files.

Three possible sources for this problem, and three separate solutions.
The following procedures assume your flash drive is assigned by MSDOS to drive E:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROBLEM 1: Pen drive write-protect switch set
SOLUTION: move the tiny switch on the pen drive from the icon of a padlock locked
toward the icon of a padlock unlocked
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROBLEM 2: MSDOS attribute set incorrectly on any/all files on pen drive
HOW TO DISPLAY CURRENT SETTING: START > Run... > cmd
C:\> E:
E:\> attrib /S /D

HOW TO FIX WRITE-PROTECTION PROBLEM: START > Run... > cmd
C:\> E:
E:\> attrib -r /S /D
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROBLEM 3: REGISTRY set incorrectly (targeted by virus or other malware)
HOW TO DISPLAY CURRENT SETTING: START > Run...> cmd
regedit
display HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ CurrentControlSet\Control \StorageDevicePolicies

The valid values for this are 0=Disabled (meaning READ/WRITE), and 1=Enabled (READ only)
HOW TO FIX WRITE-PROTECTION PROBLEM: START > Run... > cmd
regedit
set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
to a value of 0 (Disabled)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A fourth way to "Fix" the write-protection problem would be to reFORMAT the flash drive, but
this "solution" merely resets the ATTRIB characteristic of the top-level directory of the
flash drive (while erasing all files on the flash drive), which is done better with the ATTRIB command,
and completely fails to address the possible write-protect switch or Registry issues.

Usb flash drive unable to format

Your problem of flash driving not formatting can be because the protect switch of some flash drives. Many USB drives have a tiny write protect switch which does not allow it to be formatted so it not be placed in the right position ,try to apply this method will surly help you to maintain your usb drive last long without any issue.otherwise go for usb drive without this type of write protected switch.

In the edge of your memory card find the small switch. It is the settings for write protection. Don't forget to rate me please. Thanks..

Flash drive write protected? can't add files

This seems to be the problem of most of us these days and some of our readers who wanted to know the methods how they can remove the Write Protected error from their USB drives like Pen Drives and memory cards.

What is Write Protected error and why it happens?
In the Write Protected error, we can’t write or copy any data in our flash drives and even can’t format the drive.
There are many reasons that cause this problem, let’s see solutions of them.
Solutions:
• First of all try to locate a small switch (if any, that you may have not noticed) at some place on the drive or memory card reader. This is the prime reason for this error. If there is one, switch it to the other side to turn the protection off.
• Yes I know this problem is also occurring these days without this switch but not to worry. Just download this helpful software form here

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/HDD-Low-Level-Format-Tool.shtml

and run it to execute a “low-level format” on the drive. This software is quite handy and may take few attempts to actually remove the error.
• The problem can also be caused by some virus activity so just get it scanned by some updated good anti virus which may solve your problem.
• BUT if none of the methods listed above solves your problem then your pen drive might have gone corrupted, so just get it replaced.
Hope any of the methods listed above solves your problem.
Update 1:
After the low level format, you may need to “Partition the drive“. Dont worry, partitioning a pen drive means allocating it its File System and Cluster Size that was lost after the Low Level Format.
For that:
  1. Run diskmgmt.msc in Run.
  2. In the disk management window, select the pen drive, right click on it and click on Format.
  3. Now choose the File System and Allocation Unit Size and do not check the boxes below.

Click OK and the drive will be reusable after this.
Update 2 (Better Solution):
Follow the steps in this post and just put the value 0 (zero) in step 5.
This will surely solve your problem now.

Unable to format the cruser pendrive

Far too often these little things have an almost invisible read/write protect button on them. Look carefully, over the entire surface of the USB Flash Drive. You might have this switch turned to Write Protect, which means there is nothing you can do, until you turn it the other way, and allow the device to be written to.

Cheers!

Hi,
Does The Drive have a small tab on it, like a switch, which says Lock ?
If so Then you simply move the switch from lock to the opposite Position.
This is so to protect your data from being overwritten, switch is usually very small. And can easily be knocked into the Lock position ( Write-Protect )

USB IS WRITE PROTECTED HOW DO I REMOVE THE WRITE PROTECTION SO I CAN USE THE FLASH DRIVE

It depend on the flash drive.
First, the easier, check if there is a tiny switch in your flash drive. You can easily change the switch position.
Second, if no switch, it means you have "error" problem with the drive. You can download the software in the producer's website, or you can contact the producer and they might give you the link to download it.
Third, if no software offered by the producer, then you have quite big problem. Many have this problem if they unplug the driver unsafely. One possibility to remove the write protection is going to the "Regedit" and change the value of :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

go to ‘WriteProtect’ and change the ‘Value Data’ to ‘0’
