My Dyson has good suction in the upright position, but when I tilt the handle to vacuum, it looses all suction.

Re: No suction in upright position

Check the adapters at the bottom. They're supposed to move cleanly when you lower the handle. It's pretty obvious if there's an air gap when you lower the handle, and you should hear the suction in the air gap. Dyson...their support is great!

Dyson DC 25 power shuts off in upright position

To clarify, do you mean the suction and brush motion shut off in the upright position, or that the entire unit shuts off?

If the latter, most Dyson uprights shut off the brush unit in the full upright position and shunt the suction into the handle for use with the accessories. There is also an on/off for the brush, next to the main power button for the DC25. If it's off ( or stuck that way), no brush motion. The manual also notes, 'for use, turn on power and click the foot pedal in back to recline the unit.' (Link to manual here: See Page 8). The
'High Reach Cleaning' section also notes that the brush bar won't rotate when the vacuum is in the full upright position.

If you are completely losing power, the manual notes that the unit will shut off if the bar is jammed, or if there is a significant line blockage that makes the motor overheat. If this is happening, check the accessory line in the handle for blockage.

Good Luck :-)

My Dyson DC 28 works great, until I remove the bag to empty it. I reattach it, clicking it carefully in place, but then I release the "tilt" thing to vacuum carpet, and NO SUCTION! I have to keep taking...

On the back of the Hoover is a couple of parts you can remove, one is a u bend which will trap heavier parts which resist the suction so get stuck in the bottom of this, and the other part is usually on the right at the bottom which is an acces point to the very art which you hear click. In the upright position it directs the vacuum suction up the extendable pipe, but when you pull the handle back, it should gently glide from one direction over to direct vacuum suction to the bottom plate. It's tha part which is getting stuck in the handle sucking direction. I'd check to see if it is physically damaged in any way or if something is tapped in it like a coin or something. Good luck

When the dyson is turned on the suction goes to the wand when you tip the beater down you do not have as much suction you cant pick up lint.

The Dyson system is designed to operate the hose with the handle in the upright position. When the head is tipped down (floor vacuum position) it closes the opening to the hose/wand

The wandcap for my dyson vacuum doesn't stop the air from flowing though the wand. If your first responce is what model dyson ---then don't bother responding.

The cap on the DC07 should allow air to flow through when the handle is in the upright position. When you pull the handle back, there shouldn't be suction in the handle.

Poor Suction

The flexible hose between the beater bar housing and the connection to the dust bin might have come loose or has a hole in it. Check this hose for your low suction problem.

No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at

With the DC14 in its upright position, and looking from the back, there is an access hatch just to the right and bottom of the dust canister. Remove this and check for any obstruction. With the hatch still removed, tilt the handle back (as if vacuuming a floor), and you should spot that the mechanism in to which the access hatch fits changes over from one hole to another. This is how suction is transfreered from the telescopic arm to the brush bar when the unit is taken out of the upright position.
With the handle tilted back, the hole you can see is one end of a flexible pipe that leads to the brush bar. Check for any blockage and/or foriegn objects. If there is no obvious problem, you'll need to check the other end of the pipe. You can do this by removing the toe plate on the bottom of the brush bar area. The plate is held by 3 or 4 half turn fasterners - a 5 pence piece is ideal for undoing these.

If still no joy, the only other thing it might be is that the brush bar isnt spinning - this isnt actually lack of suction, but without brush rotation any upright hoover is far less effieicnt at picking up bits from the floor. Brushes not spinning on a DC14 is quiet a difficult thing to fix on a DC14 as there are two separate rubber belts, one of which is hidden under a plastic cover. There is also a clutch mechanism between the belts that can cause problems some times.

I just purchased a DC07 Dyson vacuum cleaner. It is not vacumming my floor - I have hardly any suction at all. Do I need to activate something in order to initiate the suction?

With vac upright suction is sent to the hose ie top of vac handle when handle is tilted down to the user vacuum position it should send the power suction to the floor also make sure collection bin it in securely that make be the problem
