Question about Televison & Video

Picture too dark, hard to see, adjusting brightness, etc. doesn't help

Someone gave us an old philips magnavox big screen tv with model number listed above. I'm clueless about electronics, but the picture is hard to see. We tried to adjust the brightness, and all controls possible, but the picture is too dark to see clearly. Any suggestions on what might be wrong and how hard or expensive it would be to fix. Not wanting to invest alot on this, it is for our kids' playroom.

SOURCE: dim picture

If decide to do yourself, ya only have to do the green and blue ones, the red light spectrum won't allow fungal growth. Pull whole CRT assembly out to prevent spilled/leaking glycol from onto lower main boards

SOURCE: I have a Philips Magnavox ptv843 and it has a red

These TV's are known for polluted coolant in the picture tubes. The coolant is between the lense and the tube. The factory has a Service Bulletin about this problem and they say to change the coolant in each picture tube. This will make the TV look like it did when it was new.

One of the most common faults with the phillips rear projections is the coolant in the tubes. That can and will make the picture very dim and can cause the brightness and focus controls not to have much affect over it. Please respond to this same post with your model number and I will check to see if their are any other items that could cause that symptom.
