Question about Lenovo ThinkPad R61 PC Notebook

Lenovo R61 Speaker Replacement

My lenovo has in-built conexant speakers but I cant hear the sound when I play music. They were working yesterday.

I can listen to the audio when I plug in my headphones. So sound drivers are installed properly.

In control panel>sound....I can see the beats on my speaker but can't listen to the sound.

Did I miss something or Do i need to replace the speakers?

Also where can I find those speakers? How do I know what speakers lenovo's using without opening laptop.

I'd a quick look at the service manual but couldn't find the specifications of speaker.

How can I solve the problem: my speakers stopps playing after some time. No results from problemchecking internaly but also with windows (7); driver 8.54.14.50 istalled with no need to renew.

I suggest to check if too much memory is in use, from Task Manager and also check the RAM itself. The problem might also be a faulty capacitor in the audio hardware.

Audio static

That's pretty normal with built in connectors. For a workaround grab a cheap USB sound card from eBay or somewhere else. It worked for me.

most system has seperate audio ports for the speaker and the headphone but they are interchangeable. try plugging the speaker on the audio your using for the headphone. if your already using the same audio jack then try using another speaker, but since you mentioned that the headphone works then its possible you might need to replace your speaker

I using conexant hd idio inputand output device. I record my sound but after play back i cannot heard sound

If you cannot hear the sound you have recorded. Make sure that the sound you record generates the visual pattern. This confirms that at least your microphone is working.
  • In any of the upper case your audio driver must be install and your audio hardware must be in working order. You can check this in Windows Device Manager. To go to device manager you right click "My Computer" in XP and In Windows Vista and Windows 7 its "Computer. After right clicking it select Manage and on the left pane select the Device Manager and you will see the list of devices and their installed drivers. Make sure all the audio devices and there drivers are not showing any errors.
  • Make sure that you speakers are not mute. If you take a look at the bottom right corner of your computer screen you will see a speaker icon.make sure there is no "X" or any other RED signs on them which represents mute states.
  • Similarly check other related settings. Go control panel after going to the start menu and look for the "Sound" icon and make sure there is not anything suspicious.
  • If all the above is fine and okay than look for any problems in your speakers that are open or if you are wearing them as Headphones or earphones and try to replace them to test them. Maybe the sound is coming but the speakers might be faulty make sure you increase the volume of the speakers when you hear any recordings.
  • Make sure the speakers are okay by listening to music or movie that you might get free from internet or in Disk collections. This is the way you can easily detect the problem.
  • If you can hear sound from music and movies than your microphone hardware might be faulty.
Good Luck!

I want my music back!

Have you tried to raise the volume by double clicking on the speaker icon on your taskbar. This will open the play control panel where you can raise the volume.

If you do not see the speaker icon, go into your control panel and chose sounds and audio devices and raise the volume from that screen.
