Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Getting the most from your netbook

Over the past few years netbooks have been growing in their popularity due to their smaller size which makes them more portable than your standard laptop. Additionally they are substantially cheaper than your standard full size laptop, but because of their size they can be difficult to get used to and will take some changes to your standard uses to get the most from your new, or old netbook.

?
The first thing you have to keep in mind when it comes to using a netbook is that they don\'t have the same memory and RAM capacities that you will find in their full size counterparts. For this you will want to try to keep your installed programs to a minimum to reduce the use of system resources. Most netbooks come with software that you either don\'t need or don\'t want, to free up that space you will want to use an anti bloatware program to clean up the space so that you can use it for things you really want or need.
?
Screen real estate is the next big issue with using a netbook. On my 16 inch laptop I don\'t mind that a few pixels are being lost here and there due to the windows start menu, or the top ribbon in Microsoft office. But when it comes to using a screen that is 10 inch which is a significant step down you will find that all these small things will reduce the usable screen space down considerably. I have found myself using full screen mode more and more in all my programs. This frees up all that wasted space and makes you feel less like you\'re using a tiny screen.
?
From inside full screen mode you are going to want to learn keyboard shortcuts to get around your computer so that you don’t have to constantly switch back and forth. Due to the small size of the trackpad on a netbook the keyboard shortcuts will also make you more efficient getting around. There are even programs that make launching a program using just your keyboard a breeze.
?
The last thing you might want to consider is using a cloud storage system like Google drive or dropbox if you have a desktop at home and a netbook for travel. This will help you to make sure that you have all your important files wherever you are and if something should happen to your trusty netbook all is not lost.

my avocado tree is 2yrs old grown from a pip. The tree is fullof avocados but they get to a certain size and start falling off the tree. What is the cause of this?

It may take quite a few years for the tree to be mature enough to grow full size fruit eg about 5yrs,also the weather has to be warmer than the UK. Also as you have grown this Avocado from a pip it may not suitable to grow to maturity. So sorry there are a few reasons why you may never be able to grow + eat these lovely fruit.

I recently bought a netbook and the internet screen takes scrolling to see the entire page...how can I resize?

This is due to the small resolution on netbooks.
If you cant adjust the resolution in the display options, you can adjust the text size on the browser page.
click on view/text size and try make the text size smaller(internet explorer)
or in firefox its Tools/options/content tab and adjust font size
