Question about Dell Dimension 5150 (DIM515MIN) PC Desktop

Blue screen after the welcome screen, on windows XP

My computer welcome screen comes up then abruptly stops on a blue screen, and tells me its had to stop so not to let my computer from getting damaged. I can access using the f8 key, but notice the icons and start menu are not available. I'm having to use task manager(ctrl+alt+del) to open files and access broadband. Please help.

    Sounds like the HAL.DLL problem that I have with my Aspire One.
    Try booting off a genuine Windows XP disc and choosing the 'recovery console' option. At the command line, type 'CHKDSK C:' and press Enter. If you're lucky, that will do the trick.

    I am getting the stop 0x0000c1f5 and I have no way to get the computer to start. It comes to blue screen and will not go past. It tells me to press F8 and go to the safe mode but it goes back to the blue...

    just get a windows xp cd & then boot it.
    after booting it wil say press any key to boot from cd,
    then press a key and instal a fresh copy of windows!

    I get blue screen somtimes when I installed xp pro

    it is the problem of foulty RAM, blue screen comes when the RAM was not working correctely it comes most time when you insalling xp

    Blue screen help

    Try doing this
    1. Boot to your windows XP cd
    2. On the welcome to setup screen press "R" to go to recovery console
    3. It might ask to select a drive to letter something like that just choose the number represent "x:/windows" then press enter
    4. If it asks for admin password just press enter (most system has a blank password for admin user as a default)
    5. Type "chkdsk /r /p" on the command prompt
    6. This might take 1-2 hours depending on your computer.

    Problem with my pc

    Hi David,

    You need to reboot the notebook and press the F8 key when you see the windows logo. Select the last know good configuration and allow the system to boot. If this does not fix your problem. I would suggest to reload XP. Do you have your OS cd. You an do a refresh on Windows XP without lossing any data. The menu will tell what to do.

    Cannot start up

    Do you have a copy of your OS disk:

    Try This:

    insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer. 1.
    When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.
    Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.
    Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.
    In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.
    Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.
    Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

    Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

    Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.

    When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.

    If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.

    When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.

    At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r , and then press ENTER.

    At the command prompt, type exit , and then press ENTER to restart your computer.

    The system should boot back into Windows.

    If that doesn't work follow the above steps again but after you type the Administrator password ...

    At the command prompt, type fixmbr and continue the next two steps.

    I Keep Getting The Blue Screen Of Death

    well my friend Welcome to the world of XP sucks don't it, but all is not lost! if you have your copy of windows XP re istall the software, do a fresh install, delete the old system (Partition) and start with a New (RAW) partition, and install xp as instructed in the step by step installation. you will lose all the old data on your hard drive, but the system wull have a new lease on life, don't forget the automatice updates after your back on line, and to install NEW anti Virus software, turn on your firewall, and The BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH will lose and you win.

    in the future be careful what web sites you visit, stay of Lime Wire, and blubster, and chose web sites wisely, and windows defender is a great product to tell you if you have a potential dangerous web site, if your warned DON'T GO IN!

    This will fix u r problem! I guarantee it!, if you need a new XP disk, let me know.

    Change wellcome screan of windows xp

    Disabling the Windows XP Welcome screen.
    1. Click Start, Settings, and Control Panel.
    2. Open User Accounts.
    3. Click "Change the way users log on or off".
    4. Uncheck the "Use the Welcome screen".
    5. Click "Apply Options"

    Disabling the Windows XP login prompt for password.
    Click Start and Run
    1. Type "Control Userpasswords2" and press enter.
    2. Uncheck the box for "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."
    3. Click Apply and Ok.
