I have the same issue with mine! It stopped working this morning in fact, and I too have had it for less than a year. Picture works, DVD picture works, but there's no power going to the subwoofer, so none of the speakers work. We bought an extended warranty and I hope we kept the receipt...

I too have the same described problem with the Philips HTS3450. I've had it for about 15 months now and the speakers just quit working. The main unit and sub-woofer cabinet where all the amplifiers are located are both getting power, but no sound. My guess is a power supply problem. Any fixes for this would be appreciated.

Exactly the same problem here. I suspect a power supply problem as well, but hoping to find a DYI fix. Anybody?

Mine would make sqeaking, squelching, or static noises for the first 10 seconds after being started. After that there'd be no sound so I'd have to press Mute twice to get the sound.

My problems started about a week after the warranty was up, and it was about a month before I got sick of it and called Philips.

They were great. They apologized for the problem and said I'd have to drive it to their nearest dealer, about 25 minutes away, but they'd replace it, even though I was out of the one year warranty.

I'm having the same problem. Gradual hissing when powering up over the past couple of months, now there is no sound at all.

A solution would be great. Thanks in advance.

SAME PROBLEM! I called Philips today to report this and they do not have a replacement subwoofer at this time. It would also be at my cost to replace it since it is over the year warranty. Isn't that convenient? Ours is getting tossed and we will look at a new system.

There are two 470uF/25V capacitors on the power supply board in the sub-woofer that are the cause of buzzing, crackling and then eventually no sound. Go to Radio Shack and buy two Catalog #272-1030 470uF/35V capacitors and change them out. They are in the middle of the Power Supply PCB and are close to the long flat aluminum heatsink. As far as installation instructions go; you have to have some soldering experience, first. You will also need some type of de-soldering device, be it a solder ****** or solder wick to remove the caps. Make note of the polarity before removing. Then it is just a matter of popping the new ones in (they are slightly larger than the originals so they might not go all the way down flush with the PCB) and soldering them back in. Make sure you do not make any solder shorts or your system will be toast! Your unit will be as good as new and will probably last forever now.

I had the same problem except my volume would just decrease after a few minutes of being on like someone was pressing the volume down buttton. If I walked over to the subwoofer and gave it a knock on the top the volume would instantly come back on where I had it set before. I took WheatService's advice and replaced the 470uF/25Vcapacitors and everything is working great now. I am very pleased. BTW, the parts at radio shack were like $3.00. I needed a desoldering tool, which I would recommend for this job...the one with the suction ball. I also needed some more soldering wire for a total repair cost of about $17. If you have all the tools the capacitors will cost you $3.00. Philips wanted to send me a replacement unit for $100.00 and I'm sure the local repair shop would have been the same if not more. Thanks again, WheatService!

Follow WheatService's instructions for repair. I repaired my unit having the same symptoms as other posts here and it works like a charm... for under 5$!!! I will never buy another Phillips unit again, but thanks to the helpful information here, I won't have to run out and buy another system for a while.

Same problem here. I've had it for less than a year too. I was unplugging the jack that goes from the sub to the dvd player multiple times until I heard sound and that worked for about a month, but now there is no sound and shows no sign of ever producing sound again. system sucks...

Dvd player works, but no sound from any speakers

yes, company will charge you, but the best suggestion is to get repaired from the company person.
The normal problems are bad contact of speaker wires and settings of sound from the sound menu. I think you are a genius guy, so you might have checked such things, so now its better to give it to PHILIPS SERVICE CENTRE.

DVD player not working properly

I have a DVD player, a VCR player, a TV set all hook into an RCA RT2250 Audio/Video receiver. Everything was working fine until 2 days ago. Now the DVD player gives me a great pix but no sound. The VCR,and TV are just fine and I have checked everything out, speaker connections, mute buttons, etc. and nothing seems to be wrong. I am thinking that some thing in the receiver got fried. Is it repairable?

Front speakers have no sound now.

Hups, apparently my friend put the speakers into wrong slots. Then i just copied him while trying different speaker setups and it simply never occurred to either of us to check if these were the correct slots :-D

Anyway sorry for these useless posts.

Center channel quit woring

The center channel amplifier in the main unit isn't working. Check the warranty. If it's still in force Yamaha will fix it free. If out of warranty, they'll give you an estimate.
