I have a Bose companion 3 speakers and the left speaker is louder than the right speaker. I brought it for servicing and I was informed that the audio input connector at the back of the system is faulty and there is no spare part for it therefor unable to repair my speakers system.... What kind of service is this?! Unable to repair?! The person suggested that I use the audio input on the control pod. This is not solving anything for me as your customer!

Fixya is not associated with Bose. Bose uses proprietary parts and therefore the part cannot be easily found.

SOURCE: bose companion 3 series 2 multi media speaker system

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Initially, the 14 seconds interval is significant. This is indicative that whatever fault it is, it is coupled to a time-based circuitry. The time-based circuitry need not be complicated. it can actually be a simple resistor/capacitor network. The capacitor takes a certain amount of time to charge and then discharge (14 seconds, 'whoomp'). Having said this, then the foremost suspect would be an electrolytic capacitor, probably low value (1~4.7uF), probably a coupler/decoupler. Of course the capacitor serving other functions could very well be the culprit as well.

Corrective measure would entail, identifying/determining which capacitor and replacement. Tedious as it may sound, each capacitor would then have to be tested for capacitance and leakage out of circuit or at least 1 leg un-soldered.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Pls be informed that due to my current rank and rating, even a Helpful would be detrimental to my status. Should this solution not address your concern, it would be appreciated if you could just not rate it at all. Cheers.

SOURCE: Bose Control Pod won't work

Try changing the plug on the control pod, those plugs are fairly weak and prone to breakage. Does there appear to be any strain at all on the plug itself? if so then that is where I would start. If you have a series 2 then I can help you, or if you can find out if the 2 control pods are the same, that would be fine too, but I have a series 2 system companion 3 and if needed I will cut my cable to trace the wiring and then replace your plug for you. my cost for this would be $40, that includes return shipping with priority mail.

My husband purchased Bose compnion 5 in Singapore last December. He tried it last night but the right side speaker had a very soft sound compared to the loud sound from left side speaker. How do we fix...

try swapping the speakers around if the problem still persists either the speaker is faulty
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
be sure to wear an anti static earth strap before touching anything inside your computer
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the CPU central processing unit and your sound card dust causes static to build up in a computer causing it to overheat any many other problems
hope this helps

Hi i have the Bose Companion 5 speakers for more then a year now i have been playing them for over an hour and just realised that they keep fading the sound goes high and low i have never experienced this...

i just bought companion 5 1 month ago and am facing this same problem from 1st week. its an embarrasment. i had given it to the service center and they could not detect the problem. so i did my own research and found that if i kept a fan blowing on the rear vents of the acoustimass module the problem does not occur.you also please check it. i have again given the acoustimass module to the service center and told them this lets see what they do???

Can't hear voice of singer on speakers, more of an echo sound

An old trick to remove vocals from a song was to rip the right channel, then the left, the combine them (since vocals are typically mixed in a third 'center' channel, though things like reverb or echo are applied to the right and/or left channels which sounds like what you are hearing).

I would play with the balance and mixer settings and see if you can get the vocals back. Also try other speakers or even headphones and see if you have the same problem.

Hope this helps!

Bose Companion 5 Problems

email support@bose.com or contact a Bose Support Specialist in Germany; or call US support at 1-800-367-4008. Something very odd is happening here. You are using the same laptop, correct? If not, let me know, as there are some things to try. If Bose has a solution, I'd love to hear it.
