Samsung DLP HLN5065 intermittent shut off and color scrambled display

This problem started 4 days ago when the displayed image scrambled the colors on all channels.  My wife unplugged the unit until I returned.  I powered it up and it came on for about 2 minutes, then scrambled.  I unplugged as couldn't power off normally.  Plugged back in after a minute or so.  Picture came up ~30 secs later and stayed on for a minute then the TV shut itself off.  30 seconds later it seemed to try and turn itself back on but failed.  This cycled for a few minutes so I unplugged as again couldn't power off normally or via the side power button.  I plugged in and the preceeding repeated.  I did this a few times and finally the TV came on and worked normally.  Next day this basically repeated.  I'm on Comcast cable and running DVI if that matters.  I tried antenna input and same problem.  Much appreciate any help.  Thanks in advance!

Re: Samsung DLP HLN5065 intermittent shut off and color...

Can we go further into light engine?. . .Is is shabby connectors, heat sinks, cold solder, caps, has anyone actually repaired the light engine? This is obviously a very common problem. . .I've replaced the lamp, balast, color wheel and bypassed the switch. . .mine still does this for 5-10 minutes, then will work fine forever as long as you leave it on. . .

I have a 50 inch DLP samsung and it wont power on after making a lot of noise (I replaced the lamp) worked fine for a few days now the red light and the right side green light is blinking. any sugge

The answers above are correct. It's either the lamp or the color wheel. Testing the lamp is pretty straight forward. Use an Ohm meter to see if the it's filament has continuity. It's unlikely that a good color wheel would fail immediately after changing the lamp. Look to see if some wiring is out of place and rubbing the wheel causing the noise you described. A jammed but otherwise good color wheel would cause the TV to shut down and display an error code.

I have Samsung DLP TV 50 inch HL-P5063W

First thing to look at is the color wheel this model uses--usually it will make a high pitched fan like sound but can make a grinding sound also.

If it slows down from the 12,000 or so RPM speed it will cause color issues.

Display problem with my Samsung HLP5085W DLP TV

What you are describing sounds like a tuner issue. Samsung had a run of bad tuners, and was recalled. If your watching a chennel and the image tears, this is the sign of the bad tuner. It is possible that the wobulation circuit is unstable. First units we bothered by subwoofers thumping the TV. Not much help other than that, good luck

Display problems with my Samsung model HLP5085W DLP Television

This is due to a failing capacitor on the DMD board. A color wheel will give the same symptom if the spin sensor is dirty. It is most likely the DMD and It is easier to replace the board than to find the cap. Good luck
