Question about Sub-Zero 650 / O Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

2 Answers

Sub-Zero 650/F The refrigerator is not cooling fully. It will hold about 50 degrees, maybe 47 if your lucky. The freezed appears to be OK. Funny thing, the control panel for the refrigerator appears to be working backwards. When you hit cooler it displays a higher temperture and vice versa. I thought the micro controller was confused due to recent power blips so I shut the unit down completely at the circuit breaker. That did not remedy the problem. I also checked it with a digital thermometer to make sure the internal display was OK. It was within a degree or two. The other funny thing is the compressor seems to cycle off thinking its satisfied the temperature. I have not checked the fans yet. Ed at or

Re: Sub-Zero 650/F

Get into diagnostic mode by pressing and holding either colder key, then pressing on/off. You can use the colder key to scroll through 5 reading labeled fe, re, f, and r  look at the re temp. is it higher than 38? if it is you probably have a freon leak in the evaporater refridgerator (call sub zero...they will completely pay for this issue, even past the 5 year warranty)  If the temp reads really low (like 10 on re or something) you probably have a bad fan or fan switch in the fridge portion. this unit has seperate compressors and freon for the fridge and freezer..hence the lack of problems in the freezer. hope this helps!

Re: Sub-Zero 650/F

Looks good what are all the definitions of fe, re, f, r, and ? (you said there are five. How do we return to normal operation? I don't want to wind up in 'showroom' or 'sabbath' modes.

We have our Sub Zero model 650 frig set to 35 degrees, our usual temp, but suddenly it won't get lower than 50. Freezer seems fine.

Check for a fan motor in between the freezer and the fridge. Or you have a block of frost in there shutting off air flow.

Freezer stuck on -20 degrees

well it depends on how long the door was open for during the cleaning, your evap coil was unable to cool the unit due to the warm air coming in, that will cause the evap coil to over frez . un-plugging the unit may work but the best thing to do is force it into a defrost you can do that by pressing and holding the ice key on the key pad for 10 sec or till you hear the freezer shut down this will thaw the ice on the coil and the unit with come back on within 20 to 30 Min's

Sub zero 650 fidge holding at 53 degrees

That depends on if your model has a five or ten year warranty on the compressor. Your problem may not be warranty related. Check and see if the condenser is clean, check for a frozen cooling coil.
