I had the same exact problem. On top of the agitator in the machine is the fabric softener basin.Look inside there. If it is full of gooky stuff then you need to clean it out. I forgot how to disassemble it, but you have to take it out and really cleanout all of the gook. What happens is that some of the gook gets on to the clothes and when you put it inot the dryer, the gook bakes and turns black. I did this solution and haven't had it happen since.

Although now the machine just total turned off in the middle of a cycle. I thought maybe the breaker tripped but I checked it and eveything is still ok. I came here to see if somebody else had the same problem. Good luck,.

What should I do to stop washer from putting grease on clothes?

Good Afternoon Bernard,

I understand the washer of your Frigidaire laundry center, model# GLEH1642F, is leaving grease in your clothes. I also see that you noticed the grease in the detergent cup. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. They will be able to diagnose your washer and determine where the grease is coming from to be able to repair your appliance. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

If your starting to see black grease or oil spots on your clothes after washing and it seems to happen more and more chances are the transmission seal is busted and either the whole transmission or just the seal needs replacing.

Likely the cause is grease from a failing rear bearing.

Unfortunately, it's cheaper to buy a new washer than to fix this one. That's pathetic for a washer that's only 8 years old, and completely negates any environmental and economic benefits of buying a front loader.

Black grease spots on clothing. Is it possibly coming from under agitator cone?

As bearings fail, this happens, presuming the grease was not on clothes in the first place. It takes special tools to repair this issue.

Black streaks on my laundry

Marks on clothing in a washer are usually caused by a reaction between detergents and fabric softeners, especially cheaper bargain brands.
If you are sure that the black streaks are getting on the clothing in the washer versus the dryer, it could also be oil from the transmission getting into the washer tub. See if the spots will come out using a petroleum distillate of some kind. (paint thinner, etc). If a petroleum distillate will remove the marks, it is most likely something petroleum based that is making the marks.
This is a rare occurrence, and most marks on laundry are caused by the dryer. Typically, the drum rollers wear out and rubber and metal filings can get into the dryer and mark/streak clothing. Hope this helped and sorry for the problem you are having. Best wishes.

Grease stains on clothes from LG washer (tromm 2688)

Do a couple of tub clean cycles. Then do a quick wash with a cup of bleach thrown into washer on hottest setting. If you are using liquid soap, then switch to powder--no residue leftovers. Use max 2 tablespoons of detergent but only 1 1/2 is needed for full loads. Never use softener. If grease spots persist then I would guess bearing seal is the problem. Good luck.

Front loader washing machine = black streaks on clothing

I am a recently retired engineer of 20 years once you have ruled out anything getting inside the machine by accident etc, like something in pockets or greasy overalls, then its likely to be the drum bearings, has the machine started to get noisy on the spin the drum bearings are covered by a rubber seal, this seal gets damaged or worn and water leaks into the bearings themselves washing out the grease back into the drum where the washing is, you could also notice slight water marks on the floor underneath the machine on the floor, take the back off and look for water marks coming from the drum outer casing behind the pulley, these marks will be brown and will originate from a small drain hole, if any of the above change the bearings before any real damage is done, either to the clothes or the machine, as repair can be expensive? sorry, hope i have helped you as to where to look at least,
