Question about Samsung CLP-315W Laser Color Printer

USB device not recognized

I can't get either of my two computers to recognize the device. "One of the USB devices attached to the computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." is the error message. The driver is installed and looks ok, the firewall is turned off,and the printer cable works with my HP inkjet on the same computers. The laser printer prints the test page flawlessly. I really want this printer to work. Please help!!

Hello,
SOLUTIONS:

  1. Unplug the USB device. It is possible that the connection is not secure and has become loose. This is one of the most common reasons for an error in detecting a USB device.
  2. Use the Device Manager to scan for new and recently installed hardware. From the start menu, select the 'Run' option. In the pop up box, type in Devmgmt.msc and then click 'Ok'. From the 'Action' Mmnu, click 'scan for hardware changes'. This will make Windows recognize any new devices that are installed. Now, close all device managers and control panels. Now see if your computer will read the USB device.
If the above two doesnt work, then try the following,

Disable power management of the USB hub. To disable the power management,

1.Click Start, and then click Run
2.Type devmgmt.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
3.Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers' node, and then follow these steps for each USB Root Hub that is listed:
4.Right-click the USB Root Hub and then click Properties.
5. Click the Power Management tab.
6. Click to clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, and then click OK.

PS: If you perform the following procedure on a laptop computer, you may reduce the battery life.

I had the same problem with Samsung CLP-315. I replaced the USB cable with a new one and the problem was solved.

If you can't get the laser printer to work on either computer even though you installed the driver properly then its a problem with the main board in the laser printer, it would need to be serviced to fix the problem. You know the cable works cause you've used it on more then one printer.

Looks to me like the laser printer is being recognized but its faulty cause it doesn't stay recognized thru its own USB port. That would explain why a test page from the printer itself would work cause its not going thru the USB port at that point.

The USB port is part of the main board in the laser printer.

Windows does not recognize the device ?

Hello raigangarkam,

There's a chance that that particular USB slot on your computer may not be working.

You may try to attach another USB device on that port to check if that works or not.

You might also want to try & attach your 2GB Cruzer flash drive on another USB port or another computer & check if it recognizes it.

If it still won't be recognized on the other computer, you might need to replace that 2GB Cruzer USB Flash Drive.

Hope this helps.

Try going to the control panel, system, hardware, device manager. Find your USB devices in the tree. Right click on them all, and uninstall all of them. Reboot your computer and you may be able to install your USB devices from scratch.

If this dies not work, post your computer type and what system you are running: XP? VISTA? [WIN95? :-) ]

Tried the solution you offered for c240....

Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Printers and Other Hardware --> System --> hardware --> device manager --> right click on the usb port that is malfunctioning (should have a red or yellow exclamation by it), right-click it and click on Update Driver

If that fails, try another USB port on the computer to see if you have more success
