Use a vacume to get any grit out. DO NOT BLOW THE CAM WITH AIR!! you will send more sand inside the unit. usually its inside the lens housing.

Look closely for sand particles that may be lodged around the gaps of the lens barrel. Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

When i turn on my camera it turns on then goes to a black screen and says lens error 0x0311. It was never dropped or anything its only a few months old it just started doing this one day.

There's a really good blog about fixing lens errors, and you can find it here. You don't have to have dropped it to cause this problem, it can be sand or grit in the mechanism, or it was accidentally turned on at a time when the lens could not come out.

I would be hesitant about cleaning it out yourself. If you use canned air, then you may make the problem worse by blowing sand deeper into the works. If you disassemble, critical alignment of the lense may be lost.

Take the camera to a Wolf's or similar, and see what they can do for you.

Focusing Problem

hi, if you can open your camera and remove the lens unit assy(just be carefull to the flat cable its easy to be broken) you can clean by yourself just to remove the sand goes inside of the lens unit and also to the gear.make it sure you need to use magnifying glass to see the small pc of sand .some time the sand goes to the gear that cause of malfunction or not rotate properly and also the focus gear have also sand that why the focus is bad.if you can't do this just bring to service center and request for cleaning.

thank you

This camera will most likely need a firmware upgrade. You can send it in and have the company repair it for $50. That is what I recommend doing. Otherwise you may have to dismantle entire camera and spray with a can of air duster. You may get lucky enough to just clean it, but there is slight chance it messed up the firmware and it will need to be upgraded or reprogrammed

I dropped the camera in the sand. I turn it on and it says Lens error OX 04110000

You might try a can of compressed air, but I would see if the camera is still in warranty. I had good luck with my Canon, they sent me a new camera!
