Question about Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III USM Autofocus Lens

Canon 75-300mm USM III, was initially working fine

My Canon 75-300mm USM III, was initially working fine whilst on holiday (in India) and then all of a sudden it would no longer trigger. All it does in AF mode is focus in and focus out and back in again, but does not trigger to take a photo, it will then repeat the process of focusing in and out. The lens works fine in MF mode.  Does anyone know of this problem and how easily can it be fixed, if at all? AL I have a new (Dec. 09) canon 55-250mm IS zoom lens which has been doing the same thing off and on. The lens focuses in and out but won't stop and focus on what I am trying to zoom in. I am wondering if a lot more people are having this problem too?

Be sure that the lens gold contacts and the matching gold contacts in the body lens opening are clean... you may want to clean them with a pencil eraser... don't let the crumbs fall in the camera...

Hi
you seemed to have a problem with the camera (auto-focus) mode. I suggest you try shooting in manual focus only but consider taking it to a canon service outlet for proper checks and service as a long-term solution.

Try cleaning your lens contacts with a soft cloth or pencil eraser. you should see 7 pins on the camera body and lens.

I bought Canon EF 75-300mm III Zoom Lens, but the len is very loose, is it problem

Long and short of it...if the photos are close to "decent", dont worry bout it :) It aint no L Lens but can still throw out a good pic every now n then. Tip it from one end to the other whilst holding it...if you hear something go \'ring-a-chicka-chink-chink-clunk\', then youve got problems, otherwise grin and bear the looseness - mine lasted 6 years of hard yacker before i dropped it in the drink!

Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Lens Auto focus motor keep working back and forth but lense is not able to stop on focus right. Had eror 01 also sometime with manual focus.

If your AF motor is hunting then the lens probably needs to be looked at. I wouldn't recommend this as something to do at home so you will need to either find a repair shop if it is out of warranty or return it to Canon if it is in warranty.

New Camera

Get the Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM about $500 and EFS 17-85mm IS USM about $300. The 75-300 all of them I would not use them 4 a body cap. Camera is fine or step up to XSI.
