Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook

Compaq v6420 inverted colors with vertical lines

My laptop is about 60 days old and wouldnt you know that it started at day 45, 15 days past warranty inthe store. Before I kiss it good bye for 6 plus weeks what could be the issue. I hooked it up to an external monitor and everything is fine. Does this mean it is in the LCD?

    It is a bad LCD thanks so much. Actually I took it to Fry's and they exchanged it right there for a new one as long as we bought the service contract (because my husband didnt before). Pretty sweet of them to just straight exchange it with out it being before the 30 days and no service warranty bought for it. Thank you again for answering so quickly and for being right. Sounds much like a bad LCD.... maybe you could upload a picture online and post the link here in order to illustrate better?
Can you "flex" the screen a little and notice a difference in lines or colors? Don't bend it to the point of breaking it, just a slight tweak in flexing. If you notice changes in the screen behavior, then I would say bad lcd.
Slight chance of a mainboard issue, very slight. But none the less, I would be on the phone trying to get a warranty replacement. Sometimes they will give in when it is only days out.

    Nevermind, its new lol.. thought you were saying it was a few days out of warranty all together. What brand is it? Some companies are pretty quick about turn around. And depending on your service contract, you may be eligible for on site repair. Would check into the details of your warranty/service agreement.

Sir i have a Laptop Compaq M2000.There are 9 Colored vertical line coming on my laptop screen.They are started few days ago.Please tell me what to do.


Well this may be due to the inverter board found behind the LCD panel. Try to press around your screen to see if it stops.
You probably need to solder the loose solder of the coil found on your inverter board.
For this, you need to take the screen apart.

the cells inside of the lcd itself are starting to go bad which is why your seeing lines on the screen. To fix the problem you'll need to replace the lcd.

In the meantime you can hook up an external monitor and use that so you don't have to deal with lines on a bad lcd screen.

Blue vertical line


The lines appearing on your LCD means it has a defect on the screen.

There are 3 types of pixel defect
1) dead pixel - pixel is always off
2) stuck pixel - pixel is always on
3) hot pixel - pixel is on but in red, green, blue or yellow, can also be a light black color

You can try to fix stuck or hot pixels but dead is dead.
1st method, flashing different colors rapidly:
JSScreenfix.com has a great tool. This is their free java applet or you can download it below.

2nd method, applying pressure to pixel:
Damp paper towel, Small stylus or dull pencil.

3rd method, tapping the pixel:
Pen with cover on or another small, blunt object.


If your laptop is still under warranty, get it replaced. If not you are looking at the most expensive part in a laptop to get replaced. (LCD screens on laptop is roughly equivalent to 40-60% of the total laptop cost

Yellow vertical lines on the screen of my DELL inspiron 9300


The pixels are shot - common for lower priced LCD monitors. Once it starts, it will continue. Theres no inexpensive fix for it - time to retire the Compaq

No picture and i see fine color lines in horizantal and vertical lines. i also see Tv keeps flickering with very unusal way. This a new tv ahrdly 25 days old Any help apreciated


these sets are notorious for bad inverter boards and bad video processor boards.Sharp is well aware of the problem,and will fix the units if you push the issue.

This problem is normally the Vertical filter capacitors. You need to have them changed before it burns out the Vertical Chip.
