Question about Olympus FE-170 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera freezing up

When I turn the camera (Olympus Fe-170)on the lens extends as it should, however when the camera should normally show on the screen that I can take a picture it freezes and turns itself off after about 5 seconds. There is a faint whirring sound. When it does turn itself off, the lens doesnt retract back into the body of the camera. It stays extended. I have tried resetting (by removing all cards and batteries) and changing batteries for new ones. The lens isn't jammed as far as I can see (when I plug it into my computer via USB the lens retracts immediately). Any thoughts? Any ideas? Or am I just going to have to go to a shop? thanks all! I turned my camera on, then the lens won't come back the way it used to. It's making this whirring sound and when I turn it on again, it says "Lens error, restart camera." and I do it over and over. It still won't come back.

Did someone spill some pop or anything near the camera? If so, then you'll need to clean that out with rubbing alcohol

My olympus fe ditigal camera wont take pictures / show the picture screen. the lens freeze whenever i turn it on, and the only way to make them go down is to open up the battery slot while its on and turn...

You may want to check out Olympus website for your specific camera. If you do not have a manual for your camera, you can download one there.

http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_support_product.asp?id=1260

You may need to reset your camera somehow and hopefully, you will find information about it there.

My only other guess is that you may have a low battery situation. Even rechargeable batteries need to be replaced over time. You can try replacing the battery and see if that solves your problem.

Good luck!

FE-170 - Lens extends & retracts 3 times when powered on.

appears to be power issue in the camera but you can try the lithium AA batteries that are located in the photo section of your stores... they are more powerful than regular AA batteries or else send to repair shop

Olympus FE-170 6.0 will not take pictures.

I had the same exact problem. The lens is not extending out fully or correctly, probably has broken or damaged gear or gears and needs to be replaced. Expensive repair done by Olympus. It is a very tricky and fragile repair on your own, requiring micro screwdrivers and soldering tool. I replaced my own lens but it was hard to find one.

Broken Lcd panel

Broken LCD screen is quite easy to replace on the FE-170 and FE-210. I have purchased cameras with bad lens but good LCDs on ebay pretty cheaply( compared to having Olympus repair camera).

FE 170 OLYMPUS digital camera

The lens need to be replaced or repaired. It is not fully extending. It may be that one or more of the plastic gears or plastic rods that hold the gears in place, are broken. I repaired two plastic rods in my lens, by drilling holes for new plastic rods,(I cut plastic rods from a plastic toilet bowl chain!!! It fit inside the gears perfectly), and super glue the rods in place. Replaced gears, put camera back together and BAM in worked! Nothing like a perfectly working refurbished rig job. Camera takes great pictures to this day.

Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
