Question about GE Profile Spacemaker 1.8 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave
I am having problems changing light bulb in my GE Profile Spacemaker Oven JVM 1490. I bought a bulb that I read on a post as working for the 1790, but I didn't realize that until today, when I tried following the instructions for install. Any help would be appreciated! And please tell me I don't have to take it off the wall! :)

Mmmm it's so easy,
First disconect the power, take the cover off, moslitly there would be 5 screws and two tab's on the top.
inside on the right hand side the magnetron it's a sylver box measuring about 4 in x 4 in x 5 in. It will have a plasic cover moslitly that would have to be remove first then on the magnetron there is 4 crews and one connector.
It should fall downard after.
If you have a power supply after the secondary , that may also be your problem.

To replace MOST microwave oven door handles all you have to do is open the door and remove the inner plastic panel around the glass. This is accomplished by taking a small screwdriver and carefully inserting it along the perimeter to pop it loose (there are usually some grooves you can insert the screwdriver in).
NOTE: DO NOT pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and has an RF shield that protects the consumer from the microwaves being generated by the magnetron. Breaking it, requires a new door replacement.
With the panel removed, you will be able to access the screws that hold the handle in place. Once the new handle is in place, carefully reinsert the inner plastic panel by snapping it back in place all the way around the perimeter of the door glass.
If you have questions, or if your door is configured differently, please let me know. If you have the ability to send photos, that helps too. A model number may also be useful so I can identify how your door is assembled. I hope this helps you,

You're usually better off just replacing the bad parts instead of the whole door.
If so, you can separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) then you can replace separate parts.
You can't remove the handle without doing this.
You can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.
You can find handy exploded views and order parts by model number here.
