Not firing 20 hp crafstamn turbo cooled not firing help cranked couple times then stoped checked saftey switches ok three wires going to engine black redd and orange redd wire hott with switch off i have a 20hp briggs and straton engine murry mower. i cut it off and now it wont hit a lick. it turns over fine. i sanded fly wheel. if i ground spark plug to metal, it wont fire plug. with a spark tester it shows a spark. i put new plugs in, same thing.i dont know if its the magneto or what. please somebody help. im going to pull fly wheel and check the keyway before i go any farther.

After you check the key and key way,Check the coil wire to see if it has any breaks in it,If no breaks are present,Replace the coil.

    If it doesn't have a coil,That is why it's not firing,All internal combustion engines have some form of coil,Yours looks like the one below.Here is the replacement part # 691060

remove the top cover from the engine then the small wire to the coil crank it and check for spark if you have spark with the wire off check your safety switch on the brake/brake pedal it is a dual switch so it can crank and still not fire if there is no spark with the small wire off the coil is bad

you need to find out if there is spark at the plugs

pull the plug put the wire back on hold it away from the engine then crank it over, you should see a nice blue spark arking from plug the engine body
If not then you need the start checking pug , wire , coil, or magneto wich ever your machine has

I would start with checking the fuel flow at the filter. Twist open the bleed valve on the top of the filter while you are cranking the engine. If fuel is squirting out, then you are getting fuel past the filter. now you will check the injectors to ensure they are getting fuel. You will need a couple of wrenches to break open the line. You can start with the easies ones to access on the driver's side. Be sure you hold the injector tight while you break the line loose from the top. Just loosen it 1 or 2 turns. Crank the motor and see if you are getting fuel to the injector. If you are getting fuel to the injectors, then we have eliminated a fuel problem.

Are your glow plugs cycling correctly? Every time the 6.5 diesel prepares to start, the glow plugs will cycle. The first time the engine is turned on after it has completely cooled off, they will cycle for 10-20 sec depending on the air temp. That clicking sound bothers me like the relay switch for the glow plugs isn't working. How many miles on truck? Have the glow plugs been changed? Has the relay switched been replaced?

The last area to check will be the air intake system. Pull the air filter housing open and remove the filter. Ensure it is clean and no debris got past it and is obstructing the air to the turbo. (My brother had a filter come apart and plug up the turbo.) Don't buy cheap air filters!

A few checks to do first, remove the spark plug, place it on the top of the cylinder ( away from the spark plug hole ) crank the engine and check for a spark, if ok, remove the muffler and just take a look at the condition of the piston through the exhaust port, any sign of damage, or scuffing and it will need to come apart for further investigation.

Sounds more like an electrical problem.First I'd check the battery voltage, should be at least 13. It shouldn't drop much below 11 when you crank the engine and it should bounce back when you stop. Make sure your connections are good especially to the coil,wires aren't frayed or loose on connectors. There should be a ground from the body to the motor. Is it still thereand making good contact? If I'm not mistaken the coil should ground to the motor, make sure it has good contact as well. Also double check your connections at the starter to make sure they are clean and tight. Loose connections can draw extra power and could draw enough extra power to kill the coil. Hope this helps.

Not firing


there are a few things that could cause this one it could be that the coil is shorted also it could be a shorted high tension wire better known as plug wire.it could be dirt or rust on the magnetic portion of the flywheel.or it could be the sheer pin that holds the flywheel in place that keyway pin is also the timing pin if the machine hit a rock or for any reason stopped abruptly you could have damaged the keyway pin and threw it out of time simple fix replace pin with a new one.(question )are you sure it is not firing or could it be firing but just weak.?? did you check the key switch i have had some small engines crank but not start do to bad starter switch is it electric start? does it have a oil safety shutoff switch? keep me posted and i will try my best to get you going. good luck and i hope thes tips and questions help mrdmburns@cableone.net

Switch missing on 10 hp Tecumseh engine that is installed on a


First I have never owned a Tecumseh Tiller. How that got attached to me I don't know. I do have a 10 Hp Tecumseh Engine that I wish to check out if it is good or not before I buy a switch. It has a Brown wire that goes to the low oil shut down sender. It also has a green wire and a black wire. All I need to know is which wires do I need to put together so I can check if the engine is firing or not.

Engine will not crank intermitantly


Crank sensor can translate heat. Not allowing restart after the turbo heat radiates in the area. Try a wad of aluminum foil in front of the crank sensor(on the block behind the turbo) . It protects it from heat and its a cheep test. If this works you can make a better sheild or leave the foil.
