I'm guessing the wheel was rusted to the axle and you tried to get it off with a little help from a two-by-four and a sledge, right? there is a spring clip that holds the axle in place, it is on the inside of the trans. did the lower casing crack? the trans will have to be removed and set up on a roomy bench, about 20 bolts holding the cases together, then careful prying on specific areas and the cases come apart, carefully. otherwise, gears and shafts fall out and if you don't know where they go, you're up the creek. not an easy job, especially if you're not mechanically inclined. a tip: order the parts you need before tearing into it, or the weeks you wait for the order, you'll likely forget how everything goes together - take it to a good shop or get another trans

Needing a manual on how to remove the rear tire On a 2004 Honda Shadow Aero VTC 750. The tire is flat and it is cheaper for me to remove it myself and take the tire in. I'd rather not haul the bike up...

Put the bike on the center stand or jack up the back end enough to get easy access. Unbolt and slide out the rear axle. If the axle hits the mufflers, take out the lower shock bolts and lower the wheel and swing arm enough to pull the axle and spacer out. Unbolt the brake panel stop arm. The wheel is now resting on a splined shaft. Grab the wheel and pull it/slide it sideways away from the final drive assembly. Now you should be able to drop it out the bottom or roll it out the back of the wheel well. If the tire is too wide to fit between the final drive spline and the swing arm, let the air out of the tire to squeeze it through the gap. Go to the local Honda dealer and purchase a tube of Moly60 Paste and coat the spline on the final drive with it before reassembly.

Can I replace the trans-axle through an access on the outside of the transmission? Or is it necessary to remove the transmission in order to change the trans-axle on a 1998 Camry?

the trans axle is the tranny...but if you meen the c.v axles you can take off the axle nut ..then remove the tie rod and lower ball joint and change the axle shaft with out tranny removal.. the tranny is called a transaxle on a front wheel drive car cause the differential and the tranny is one unit where as on rear drive car you have the tranny and then a rear diff connected bt a drive shaft where there is 3 seprate units

Wil putting two size tires on a isuzuvehicross make the transferre case go out.

Yes...
The tire sizes are important on any 4X4 vehicle... IF you engage the 4X4 ... or is you have an AWD vehicle...

If the tires are different sizes , front and rear... then the front and rear axles will turn at different speeds... not in sync with the gearing of the transfer case.

Unless this vehicle is being driven on snow , ice or mud.... while in 4x4 mode... this is very bad.... for axles and transfer case...

I have a Craftsman mower 917.280810.It barely moves when clutch is released, even on flat ground.I changed the belt-no help. The transaxle pulley is engaged, and when I put my hand on the tire, the tire stops...

I don't quite get you, if the belt is running but the rear axle is not turning then your transmission is shot. If the belt is running and the rear axle is spinning with no forward or backward motion, then someone took the back wheels off and put them back on without installing the keyways.

Have a 2007 fxstb with 200mm rear tire and want to put axle covers on it which requires removal of axle, purchased another axle to keep old axle in place while i put mount hardware on....will this work?

yes, if you push the new axle in while pulling the old axle out the other side, you can take the old axle completely out and install the backing plate for the axle cover on that side. Then, reverse the procedure and do the other side. But, it's not really necessary to do all this and purchase another axle. If you simply lift the bike until the weight is off the rear tire but it's still on the ground, usually the rear wheel won't go anywhere. You're still going to have to loosen the tension on the rear drive belt though.

I have a 1993 vulcan that needs new tires. I have the front wheel off no problem, but I don't even know where to start taking the rear apart. Would appreciate any expert advice.

Easy as pie. Put bike on center stand or use swingarm stand. Remove nut from rear axle. Remove pinch bolt from rear axle, and pull axle out. Take spacer from between frame and rear brake. Remove brake strut, and brake caliper. Pull wheel out of final drive, and lower to floor. You might have to let the air out of the tire to get it out from between the final drive and swingarm. After changing the rear tire inflate it to seat the bead, deflate to get back in place, then reinflate. Put some grease on the splines in the final drive before reinstalling the wheel, this will make it easier for the next change.

Our 20 hp 46" cut Husqvarna '08 riding mower will crank just fine but will not move forward or backward.

Check to make sure the belt that runs from the engine pulley back to the transaxle is on all the pulleys. If it is a hydrostatic transaxle make sure the free wheel control lever at the back of the tractor is in correct position, or the brake plate may be stuck on but that would make a loud grinding sound. If it is a gear drive make sure the transaxle pulley is turning and make sure you didn't lose a rear wheel key from the axle,(if you had the tire off for a repair it is easy to lose the key when you go to put the tire back on.
