Question about Nikon D50 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens

1 Answer

Digital Camera produces spots on screen Not caused by dust etc.

On my pictures I have spots  (Five in a pattern ) Still there after cleaning )  These  seems to be on horizontal format only. They are unsharp. One looks like a spot that has a tail. Every shot I have to retouch in Photoshop. Using different lenses does not solve problem, so it is in Camera. I have been in Photography for 62 years and know the difference between dust spots and those caused by system.

Black spot on pictures - cleaned lenses and inside

The spots can be in the inside of the lens settings to the CCD/imager.
If the cleaning of the lens is done well it can be a speck of dust logged in to the screen and having it on the image.
A careful cleaning in a dust proof set up is required.

In every shot I take there is a small shadow spot on the left middle! Why? I bought the camera used from a friend and they say they never had this problem,so I returned the new lens I bought and purchased...

If the spot appears on pictures you view on the computer or in prints, then the spot is dust on the sensor. If not, then the spot is on the focusing screen. You can clean the sensor but you will need some supplies and a little knowledge. Google the words "cleaning a DSLR sensor" and you will find sites with pictures explaining the procedure. It's not difficult. This problem is common with all cameras with lenses that can be removed.

I have a black smoky blur in the top right hand side of my screen, is the camera out of line, rest of the picture is crystal clear dissapears when zoom is at maximum.

It sounds like you have a spot of dust inside your lens. When you zoom to maximum, you are using the "digital zoom" in addition to the optical zoom, and so the camera isn't using the pixels that have the dust spot covering them up. It may be difficult to get the dust out on your lens without taking it apart, but try using one of the dust remover cans you can get at a hardware store. You might have to send it in or take it to a camera shop, and they may have better ways to get it cleaned out. It could also just be a spot on the surface of the lens, which you can clean with a lens cleaning cloth. Post a comment with your rating if this doesn't help, and maybe you can post a picture that shows the defect. That would make it easier to see what exactly is happening.

Blurry spot on bottom left of picture

It sound like you have some dust particles or a smudge spot on the CCD screen (actually on the low-pass filter in front of image chip). To leave an image on CCD, the dusts must be closer to the image plane to be registered so it should be somewhere closer to the screen or right on it. Take a look at the screen with "CCD Clean" mode and blow out any dust. If the smudge is on the screen, I recomend trained tech should clean it. good luck. For further assistance by email, go to

Grainy, Spot Filled Images when using Manual Modes Only

It sounds like the aperture is getting set very high. If the aperture is a high number, the lens opening is very small which lets less light in and would cause a dark image. This would also show any dust that is in or on the lens or image sensor. The dust doesn't usually show on apertures with a larger opening (smaller number). Make sure your aperture is being set to a reasonable number, probably no higher than 8 or so.

Spots on images

spot is dust on the sensor. unfortunately, you will have to clean your sensor by yourself (it cost 30$ in a shop) There a fonction in the menu that up the mirror so you can access the sensor. very carefull. the pixel are so small that you can not see the dust but they are there!. caution, you need to put your body on a pod, have a good light to see what you make and some adapted items to clean the sensor. If not neede, avoid liquids. good luck and don't panic.

CCD sensor has some dirt/dust on it . Set camera to B ( in manual mode scroll until 'bulb' is displayed in the top display ) . Take lens off and release the shutter and keep the button pressed down so that the sensor is exposed : use blower to remove dust/dirt but NB do not touch sensor surface as you will make it even dirtier. Take some shots to see if the spot has gone and repeat if it has not disapear.

Spots on pics

I suggest you send it back to repair shop to clean ccd area. there are fine dusts in ccd screen area that camera need to be disassemble and removed and cleaned. I do not think the LCD is the problem. Some point and shoot models dust flowing through more than some others and if I am not mistaken, it seems this model has dust problem.
