Small appliances use CLOSED systems because they use r-12 or 134a freon (you have to be licensed to buy and dispose of it) - once charged - they are sealed shut. You will have to make your own charging port with a tap (similar to a refrigerator water line tap. They are available at most A/C supply shops... however the taps are inconsequential if you do not have a license to purchase the refrigerant.

Why is my Samsung french door/freezer not working

It is very rare to have a freon leak. It is possible but there are there are things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold. Is the compressor running. Are the fans running. Is the freezer or refrigerator coils blocked with ice. Usually freon is the last place i look.

Whirlpool freezer cool air but not freezing?

Check the seal first. Then check the freon. If it's R-12, you can go to the auto parts house. They have a bottle with a hose to add freon. You put it in on the "suction" low side with the unit running. you can tell when it has enough by feeling the low line be cold and teh high pressure line is warm to hot

you dont want to add any more freon to it to start with

it either has to much in it or the thermostat is not turning it off and making it run to long, you need to see what temperature you are getting in the freezer and what suction pressure the unit is running on to determine if it is over charged

Freezer is not getting cool

Most likely if you have to ask this question it is better you do not try it as it requires that you add a service valve and need 134a service gauges and know how to read the gauges and know how to handle freon as it requires a license to safely handle this chemical.
you should look for other causes for no cooling, as is, is the compressor running? Are the cooling fans running or do you have a defrost problem that is evident by frost showing on the back side of the freezer?

Need to add freon

  • if you are tapping into a sealed system, then you use the larger of the two copper lines coming out of the side of the compressor (this is the low pressure line, the compressor pulls from this side).
  • clean off the copper tubing with some fine sandpaper before installing your tap.
  • it is very easy to over fill a system with freon, so i would recommend pulling down the system to -30 psi and holding for at least 20 minutes. then add a known amount of freon to the system.
  • let it run for a while, it will take a little time to get the temperatures down.
