Hp pavillion m7640n has no power

Yesterday morning i turned on my computer and it was working fine. I went and did some things around the house and came back to it a few hrs later and it had stopped working completly. No fans , no lights except there is a little green light on the back where the power the power supply is. Could it just need a new power supply and if so what type and where do I go to get one? Lucky me my warranty just ran out in november. Go figure. Thanx in advance for any help at all Im losing it without it.

It could be a power supply, but it could be a number of other hardware components too. A new power supply is less than $50, you can get them at Best Buy or Newegg.com. Any computer place can install it for you. I suggest you take it somewhere to make sure the power supply is the problem.

My laptop (HP pavillion dv6700 series) shut off yesterday and now won't turn on. Nothing comes on when you hit the power button, even when connected to the wall. It worked fine yesterday morning, left it...

Yes it may very well be. Your battery may be running out. Try this: drain your battery completely than take it out of your laptop. Now power on your unit and let your computer recognize that the battery is missing. Turn off your unit and put in your battery and power up. Let the battery charge go to your battery cofig and check on the status. When it is fully charged you should get from 8 to 16 hours of constant battery time. When you jump back and forth from battery plug in your power cord and back and forth you actually wear your battery out faster. Sometime the life of the battery is cut in half. I disable my battery from my computer while it is still attached so you don't have to take it out and just use it when I need it. This will keep more refreshed and will last a lot longer.

Hope this helps, let me know if I can help you with anything else. It would be very kind of you if this does work for you to please rate me or leave a short note. I would really appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

Hp pc m7640n won't turn on and power supply light is out

OK, this can be a hard thing to fix. Most of the time, the power supply is the first thing to go on a PC. However, when you stated that the motherboards LED came on after you unpluged the PS from the motherboard, it leads me to believe that the motherboard is the issue but the power supply might be outputting higher voltages and the motherboard might be shutting down. Since the power supply is cheaper then most motherboards, I would recommend getting a new one. Check ebay for a new power supply. It should be about $20 with shipping. If the same thing happens, then you need a new motherboard...

I have a crappy HP pavillion dv6000 laptop, after working fine on shutdown last night, i turned on this morning and it would not boot up. the lights on the volume bar lit up, flashed, and went off...thats...

It's acting like the juice is drained in the battery. Are you sure it's charged? Do you have a spare battery you can swap out?

Some of them come with two. I actually have the same series laptop (a Pavilion dv6258se, 6000 series), and they can be a little flaky.

I also had an issue where my HP power cable (that connects the laptop to the wall outlet) was faulty, and needed to be replaced, because it stopped charging the battery. I ended up purchasing a generic replacement power cable on eBay.
