Gateway FPD1975W 19 inch LCD Monitor

The FPD1975w

posted by lectro on Oct 24, 2007

After awhile the screen goes all strange with lots of multicolored lines across it. Turn off then on the screen comes on for 1 to 5 mins then goes back to lines. The monitor was 8 days out of warranty . Gateway tells me to just go buy another monitor. Is there any way to fix this.

Replacing the lcd screen more than likely. Problem in the PCB thats built onto the lcd itself.
They are rather inexpensive these days to replace. I would just buy a new one. Check warranties offered before buying, some manufacturers offer 3 years. ;)

Other option, pull the lcd out of its shell, get the screens part number and manufacturer info and look on ebay for a replacement. You will prob find it costs the same as buying a new monitor, or pretty close to it. The screen itself is made by someone else, like AU Optronics, Hitachi, Sharp... etc. It will have a part number from that manufacturer on a sticker attatched to the backside of the lcd.
