IP address change needed on a AlphaServer DS10

First, identify the NIC you wish to change; use:

$ MC LANCP <ret>

> SHOW DEVICE

Next, use the menu driven utility "TCPIP$CONFIG", to set your desired IP address etc:

$ @TCPIP$CONFIG <ret>

Option 1 - core environment

Option 2 - Interfaces (then select your NIC or the IP Addr to change)

Option 2 - add/change a Primary address on *** (where *** is your NIC).

How to Troubleshooting Network

Here you will learn network troubleshooting tips, fix tcp/ip errors, tcp/ip settings, internet connectivity errors, how to fix pc errors, lan connectivity issues, traceroute and ping commands. Whether your operating system is Windows or Linux network problems are likely to arise. Many times the network problems arisee due to improperly configured TCP/IP settings. Following is the basic checklist to identify and troubleshoot the basic networking errors.
1. First of all you should learn what stopped working server or client computer also see if the outage affecting the other computers or only one.
2. If you server stopped working you should inform the users of the server and you should start working on fixing the error.
3. If a single client computer stopped working or disconnected from the network, ask the user of that computer that what recent changes cause the server to stop working such as newly installed software or games, service packs, internet software, new hardware or any other thing.
4. Check the physical network connectivity. The most network problems arise due to the physical layers failure.
5. Check all the network cable connections. You can start at the NIC and check if the green light is blinking then check the hub and see if the computer is getting the link across the cable.
6. Get a cable tester to check the connectivity of the cables.
7. Finally start pinging the network both Windows and Linux have the PING command. You can use ping command in this way start > Run > cmd > type "ping" then IP address of the other computer

Unable to establish connection between PC and router.

Check your PC NIC card is installed properly in device manager or connect your PC directly to MODEM and check if IP, DG and DNS would appear.

If that works, then you know its the router (Belkin). Try resetting it to factory defaults by pressing the RESET button.

We ave lost our connection on our one computer to

Its sounds like it could be a number of problems. One problem may be that your computer's IP Address may have become invalid (expired, or other reasons). One way to fix this is to go to command prompt on your computer, and use the commands "ipconfig /release", and then "ipconfig /renew". After that, use the ping command to test connectivity. To do this, type in ping, and then your router's address (i.e. ping 192.168.1.1). If you get replies from your router's IP, then your connection is working. If you get a reply from an IP starting with 169, then your networks settings are probably incorrect. If your request times out 4 times, then you have other issues. In the case that your requests time out 4 times, try "ping 127.0.0.1". If this ping does not work, then you need to replace your NIC card.
If you still need help after performing these steps, or if you just have questions about the information in this solution, please feel free to contact me.

Linksyswireless-N WRT120N The ethernet ports dont work when connected to my desktop but works on other pc's or my laptop.

If you can use the same cable and ethernet port to connect to the router with a laptop, or other computers, then you have isolated the problem to your non-connecting computer. Plug in the computer with the connection issue with the same ethernet cable. Next, open up command prompt and type in the command "ping 127.0.0.1". This command checks your NIC card to see if it is working properly (if you get "Reply from 127.0.0.1", then your NIC card is good, but if not, then you need to replace your NIC card.). If your NIC card is good, ping your default gateway (i.e. using a linksys with a default IP, type "ping 192.168.1.1" in command prompt) Your router's private IP Address, which can be found by successfully connecting another pc and, on the connected pc, typing "ipconfig" in command prompt, is also known as the default gateway. If you get 4 "Request timed out.", or "Reply from 169.X.X.X" ("X" being any number), then your network connection settings on your pc are incorrect. To fix these settings, assuming that you have DHCP enabled on both your router and the computer being troubleshooted, use the commands "ipconfig /release" and then "ipconfig /renew" in command prompt. Give the computer a minute or two to allow the computer time to acquire a new IP Address, and the correct configuration from your router. Now your computer should be connecting properly.

How do i get connected to another local computer with wire

you need either a "crossover" cable or both plugged into an ethernet switch, with network settings the same but i.p. addresses off by 1 digit. eg. 192.168.1.3 on computer "a" and 193.168.1.4 on computer "b".

I received a new 2wire 2701HG-B modem router for AT&T DSL (replacing an older 2wire that burned out) and was able to hook up laptops right away no problem, but desktop doesnt recognize new modem how do...

are you on windows XP, Vista, MAC ???

you start out by seeing if you can ping the 2wire. The ip address you ping from a command prompt is the 2wire's gateway, 192.168.1.254

(you can get to the command prompt by clicking start, then click run, and type cmd and click ok on windows XP)
(on vista, you just click start and type cmd right above it where it says start search and hit enter on your keyboard)
(MAC's have a ping utility located by clicking on the harddrive, applications, network, network utility, and then the ping tab)

a little black window pops open, thats your command prompt

type ping 192.168.1.254 and hit enter on your keyboard

if you dont get replies, then your computer doesn't see the 2wire.

call tech support at 877-722-3755 24/7 for further support if required. We can make sure you nic is config properly, working properly, your not being blocked by a firewall, etc.
